Objectives

  • Promote the capacity building for volunteers.
  • Provide guaranteed volunteering opportunities (and possibly paid casual work) for successful graduates of the project.
  • Provide high quality and enjoyable opportunities for Adult Learners to work with young people in sport in a community facility.
  • To provide high quality qualifications in coaching gymnastics.
  • Provide Adult Learners with the opportunities to increase their role in the local community and to engage with people across all ages.
  • Optimise the provision of coaching expertise in a community facility for both volunteers and coaches.
  • Share models of good practice in all areas including coaching, child welfare and first aid in sport.

Core Principles of all Course Activities

  • To be run in accordance with the governing body (British Gymnastics) Guidelines, particularly relating to coaching qualifications and safe practices.
  • To operate in line with a code of conduct agreed by City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy guidelines relating to behaviour, clothing, warm-up and cool-down, safe use of appropriate equipment, preparation planning and feedback.
  • To be accessible to all genders and cultural and socio-economic groups in the community and appropriate to their abilities.

Agreement

  • The Adult Learner agrees to arrange meeting with their mentor regularly to plan and review progress of course work.
  • The Adult Learner agrees to volunteer coach in the City of Newcastle Gymnastics Academy throughout the duration of their course.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

City of Newcastle Gymnastic Academy Role (CNGA)

Overall administration of the project.

  • AllAdult Learners appropriately CRB check prior to start date.
  • Provide course resources.
  • Provide a Mentor coach.
  • Provide the facilities needed to participate in the course.
  • Ensure the course runs in accordance with the governing body (British Gymnastics

Guidelines), particularly relating to coaching qualifications and safe practices.

  • The Academy will provide a welcome to all Adult Learners, ensuring he/she is treated as

part of the our team. A small induction to the use of the Gym, (Equipment) Club Room,

and Toilets

Adult Learner’s Role

The following should be carried out by the Adult Learner.

  • Running a coaching sessions for young gymnasts
  • Evaluate the young performance of the gymnasts, providing suitable feedback, balancing criticism with positive and motivating comments
  • Assess strengths and weaknesses in gymnast’s performance and identify areas for further development
  • Adapt to the needs and interests of the group or individual gymnast
  • Communicate instructions using clear, simple language
  • Inspire confidence
  • Demonstrate an element by breaking the task down into a safe and effective sequence (progressions)
  • Comply with health and safety policy and guidelines at all times
  • Comply with BG Safeguarding guidelines at all times

Additional activities/General roles:

  • To help setting up equipment and clearing the gym when necessary
  • Actively promote the provision of equality of opportunity within the initiative and promote non-discriminatory practices in all aspects of the volunteering undertaken.
  • All volunteers are responsible for the implementation of the Health and Safety Policy so far as it affects them, volunteers, staff members and others who may be affected by their activity.
  • To participate in training and development programmes as required
