Experiencing a STAR Volleyball Camp!
“S” represents “smart”. Playing volleyball using proper fundaments is smart. Some of the dozens of things that will be addressed are: beating the ball to the spot, taking the seam, having a still platform, setter demanding the 2nd hit, learning a correct 3-step approach, making jump serving easy, disciplined defense, etc.
“T” represents “team”. Volleyball is the ultimate team sport and this will be emphasized by the drills and statements made by the coaching staff. Team ideas that will be addressed: being on time, encouraging teammates, being the ultimate bench player, giving 100% effort at all times, putting the team ahead of yourself, etc.
“A” represents “attitude”. So many athletes never reach their potential, lose playing time, and even get cut because of their poor attitude. STAR coaches will dwell on this. We’ll talk to the entire camp. My assistants are guaranteed to be excellent role models for the campers!! “Attitude Rules The Athlete”.
“R” represents “relentless”. “Only when everyone is giving 100% will we improve as a team. We will never, never, never stop trying. In fact, effort is one way coaches judge athletes. Relentless effort is all a coach can ask. We’ll win more matches with hardworking normal kids than with prima donnas who think giving their maximum is asking too much.”

Hosting A
STAR Volleyball
Camp!
You, the host coach, will decide:
* the type of divisions (elite, var, rookie, etc);
* the number of days & number of hours/days;
* the camp emphasis;
* the number of sessions per day;
* the assignment of campers to divisions.
In order to host a camp,
you only need:
* 15 campers per division;
* Fee: Depends on our travel;
* Maybe hotel rooms. Maybe a flight;
* Nonrefundable deposit and;
* Minimum payment at the end of camp;
That’s it!!
Then Coach Houser will:
* Maintain a web page for your camp where players can get info and download forms;
* Provide enthusiastic and encouraging assistant coaches who have extensive vball experience;
* Direct the camp, including the warm-ups, stretching, drills and competitions each day;
* Stay in constant contact with the host coach (even during the camp itself) to ensure the camp is progressing to the host’s satisfaction;
* Give the campers any kind of “good kid” talks that the host requests: Team, attitude, recruiting, etc., and;
* Give out end-of-camp awards that the campers will talk about for years!

Coach Houser:
He’s coached volleyball for 32 years. He has coached 18 varsity teams, 10 JV teams, and 25 junior teams. Volleyball taken him to San Francisco, Alaska, Miami, Washington DC, Atlanta, Columbus, Salt Lake City, etc.
He is the sixth winningest volleyball coach in the state of Virginia with nearly 300 varsity wins.
His teams have qualified for Junior Nationals three times (’06, ’09, ’12). His 15’s team was the #1 ranked SIXTEENS team in the Old Dominion Region last season. This year he’s coaching a 15 National team in Roanoke.
He was the head varsity volleyball coach at Bassett High School for 16 years where he won 11 conference championships, won 10 conference tournaments, had a 267-47 record, and coached seven conference players-of-the-year.
He has now coached 69 girls who have gone to play in college. He and his staff directed 12 camps last summer. Volleyball is his full time job.
He married Sara in the summer of 2000 and moved to Roanoke. They live near Cave Spring High School.
