PURPOSE: Summary of Executive Board Meetings and Activities for the Year 2013-2014

August 10, 2013: Informal Board Meeting

·  Officers for the 2013-2014 year were installed.

President: Tiffany Mylius

President-Elect: Stephen Tidd

Past-President: Barbara Brown

Secretary: Angie Fisher

Treasurer: Cathy McNary

New Professional: Ian Wallace

Student Forum Representative: Rachel Dechant

·  2013-14 Leadership Roster openings were discussed

·  2013-14 Budget was discussed but approved

·  The Presidential plan for 2013-2014 was discussed – “Mentoring Matters”

·  Executive Board and Committee reports were presented.

·  Possible 2013-14 agenda items:

-IMSS 50th Anniversary Meeting-September 11-14, 2013, Jackson Hole, WY

August 20, 2013: Electronic vote to approve 2013-14 Budget with a Board meeting at IMSS in September.

September 11, 2013: Executive Board Meeting at IMSS-Jackson Hole, WY

·  Quorum present

·  2013-14 Budget presented and approved

·  Committee appointed to explore Fundraising Activities ( Cathy McNary, Rachel Dechant, Connie Ohlson)

·  Resignation of President-Elect, Stephen Tidd announced and Tracy Mathews was nominated and approved to assume the position

·  October Leadership Retreat discussed-Barbara Brown and Tiffany Mylius will set agenda

·  Silent Auction reminder- proceeds to benefit “Make a Wish Foundation and RVIII Leadership Academy” – basket donated on behalf of ASCLS-CO by Rachel Dechant

·  Next Board meeting is scheduled for October 25 at the Leadership Retreat

October 3, 2013: IMPORTANT Announcement

ASCLS-CO Board was informed in early September of the resignation of our President-Elect, Stephen Tidd as he has relocated out of state and on September 28th we received the resignation of our current President, Tiffany Mylius, due to family matters.

The ASCLS-CO Board convened a conference call on October 3, 2013 to discuss succession plans; it was agreed that Stephanie Mihane would act as the Presidential contact with the presidential duties being distributes among the five past president and the Board.

Notice was given to the General Membership on October 5, 2013 with a tentative Board meeting scheduled for November 2, 2013.

October 25-26, 2013: Leadership retreat cancelled

November 2, 2013: Executive Board Meeting Lone Tree, CO

·  Bylaws Revision Committee completed the bylaws and will have them ready for vote at the General Assembly Meeting.

·  Fundraiser Update

·  Newsletter Revitalization

·  Fall Seminars held in Pueblo on November 8 and Northern Colorado on November 15 in collaboration with CACMLE

January 18, 2014: Executive Board Meeting -

·  Committee reports were presented.

·  An audit was performed on all ASCLS-CO accounts. Bylaws were revised and were sent to the parent body for approval.

·  Fundraising Report

·  Student & Young Professional

-  Meet & Greet with students at CCMLS and AACC with MLT students

-  Nov.8 with “Pizza and drinks”. with the students from Parkview Medical

Center and MLS Program, UCCS, Colorado

- Winter Meet & Greet: ASCLS MLT students from Colorado Mesa -Winter Seminar in

Grand Junction

-  Spring Meet & Greet: students at CCMLS and students from AACC.

Agenda: ASCLS student membership, the 2014-15 Student Forum Representative

position, and the Alpha Mu Tau Scholarship and poster session and the Student Forum session at

CLCC Spring Meeting.

March 1, 2014: Executive Board Meeting - CACMLE Board Room, Denver, CO

·  Fundraisers: New Belgium Brewery - May with be PACE credits available, Student Boondock’s Bowl-a-thon Competition, Wed. April 9 – six teams of 6 are registered and items to sell are “Top Ten Reasons to Become an MLS” blue bag for $ 5.00, “MLS do all the Bloody Work”, red travel mug for $18 or both for $20.

·  Two $1000 scholarships were awarded in the fall of 2013: the recipients were CLS

students Twyla Urban and Stephanie Swiler. They will be introduced at the 2014 CLCC. Information

regarding 2014 scholarship will be available in August for the program directors of the CLS and CLT

programs in Colorado.

·  HOSA Career Fair, and Biotech Competitions, March 7th, Pueblo Convention

Center and Pueblo Community College- Over 700 junior and senior high school students attended. Cathy

McNary and Jenney Mead’s MLS students represented ASCLS-CO at our booth and in judging the

laboratory competition, while Stephanie Mihane gave a presentation on MLT/MLS Career Option.

·  ASCLS-CO had three members attending the Legislative Seminar in March: Cathy McNary, New

Professional, Ian Wallace and Student Forum Chair, Rachel Dechant.

·  ASCLS-CO By Laws revisions approved by BOD. They were sent to general membership and

posted on the website for review and comment on January 31, 2014 – vote scheduled

for General Assembly at CLCC

·  CLCC Meeting- April 10-11, 2014- Denver, CO – program mailed and posted on ASCLS-

CO website, registration available on line. * General Chair – Cathy McNary, * Program –

Stephanie Mihane & Cathy McNary, * Student Forum/New Professional – Ian Wallace, Lee

McKissick, Rachel Dechant, Bill Pierce, Student Poster session with PACE credit and

Student Scholarship Fundraiser- Boondook’s Bowl-a-thon Team Competition on Weds. April 9th

·  IMSS Planning Committee and Region VIII Conference Call – February 1, 2014 - Location:

Snow King Resort and Pavilion, October 1-4, 2014- theme will be OCTOBERFEST – Harvest the Learning

·  Next meeting: ASCLS-CO General Assembly on Friday April 11 at 7:00 a.m.

April 10-11, 2014 CLCC, the Clinical Laboratory Collaborative Conference, State Meeting with CACMLE, CLMA and ASCLS-WY will be held in Denver on. Rick Panning will be presenting a General Session and Break out session.

·  April 11, 2014 -Annual General Assembly Meeting

-  Delegates to the ASCLS National Meeting in Chicago- President, President-Elect, New professional, Student Forum, Barbara Brown, Emily Thebert, alternate -Alice Roberts(student)

-  Delegates to IMSS 2014 – Barbara Brown, Tracy Mathews

-  Membership Vote to approve our revised society By-Laws passed

-  Committee appointed to work out details of combining district treasuries into one state treasury-

(Jenney Mead, Robin Sorrell, Sandy Fiscus, Bill Pierce, Cathy McNary)

-  Awards; Nominated members for these National Awards; NEW Lifetime Achievement Awards- Barbara Brown, NEW Website Award – Jenney Mead, Webmaster, and New Professional Award-Ian Wallace.

State Awards - Key to the Future – Rachel Dechant, ACLSC-CO MOY – Lynn Maedel, IMSS Nominee

for CLS – Stephanie Mihane, 4 national OS, 1 Regional OS, and 8 state OS plus 6 President’s Awards

- Membership Report by Bill Pierce indicated: 10 Collaborative, 7 Emeritus, 3 Honorary, 15 FYP, 40

PF1, 28 PF2 and 21 Students. Honor: Evelyn Blazer - Professional 1 member for 45 years. Evelyn is

a blood banker at St. Joseph Hospital and still working full time.

-  Late Summer Leadership Retreat tentatively planned for late August at Cathy McNary’s home in Ft. Collins, CO
