Dear educators,counselors and students;

San JuanRegionalMedicalCenteroffers a Summer VolunTeen Program, as well as a Shadowing Program designed to provide a short term experience for high school students through the summer months. We are limited in our ability throughout the school year to place students in the hospital due to their schedules. However, many teens would like to learn more about the healthcare setting, and often come here to shadow or fulfill Senior Project requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for them to take advantage during the summer months. Although school is almost out for the summer, I ask that you to share this opportunity with your students. There are two options for students:

1)Shadow an employee with 100% supervision within a 30 day period to observe the function of that role. Student must be 16 or older to shadow. Some areas are off limits, and an abbreviated orientation will be required. To obtain more information aboutshadowing, the student should contact Human Resources at 609-6956. Space is limited. This is a separate process from the Summer VolunTeen program.

2)Become a Summer VolunTeen and be placed May through approximately August 8th with the availability to volunteer a minimum of 40 hoursfor the summer. If the student wishes to continue volunteering through the school year, they may receive more information on how they can achieve this opportunity. There is also limited space in the Summer VolunTeen program.

Requirements to volunteer at SJRMC include:

  1. Complete a volunteer application (form attached) with reference letters
  2. Agree to have TB test and have a background check completed, which includes being fingerprinted
  3. Attend an information session/interview (a parent or guardian must also attend),options listed below

  5. Provide shot records
  6. Must have a state issued photo ID for fingerprinting requirements
  7. Purchase a volunteer polo shirt for $13.00 during orientation

future

c. Scholarship and educational assistance opportunities - the more hours

served the better their options are for funding for long term volunteers

  1. Learn the value of volunteering, helping others, and giving back to your

community

The volunteer application and references should be returned before the information session, but can be brought to the information session if necessary.
