Basic Operations
Addition of numbers:
learn to group so that you get groups of 10, 100,...
13 + 28 = 13 + 27 + 1 = 41, 123 + 89 = 120 + 80 + 3 + 9 = 212
Subtraction:
learn to add a horizontal line of numbers and learn to look for patterns that make subtraction easier
121 - 23 = 121 - 21 - 2 = 100-2 = 98, 304 - 120 = 324 - 120 - 20 = 204 - 20 = 184
You will develop your own way of grouping - this is just a suggestion, do what you are comfortable with
Products:
practice multiplication, know your multiplication facts, know the rules when multiplying by 10, 100, 100
Division:
know your multiplication facts, do not make simple mistakes 1224 divided by 12 is not 12 but 102.
General Knowledge:
there are 12 inches in one foot, 3 feet in one yard, 16 oz (liquid) in 1 pint, 2 pints in 1 quart, 4 quarts in 1 gallon,
8 pints in 1 gallon, 16 oz (solid -weight) in 1 lb, ...
Addition
No real trick here just a lot of practice. Get used to grouping numbers or parts of a number in such a way that is easier for you to add. Also, get used to seeing numbers in a horizontal format instead of a vertical format.
