WYNNUM HUB CONTEXT

Volunteering Queensland, the auspice for this project, is the state peak body solely dedicated to advancing volunteering. By advocating on behalf of, being the voice for volunteering and providing services to support the industry, Volunteering Queensland have, for more than 35 years, led an industry that has fueled Queensland’s economy and enhanced the lives and well-being of its community.

“Safe by the Bay”(SBTB) is the name of the Bayside Homelessness Community Action Plan (HCAP) working group. This group was established in 2013 and works collaboratively on local issues focussing on meeting community members’ immediate needs. SBTB’s mission is to reduce the impact of homelessness and improve the well-being, independence and quality of life of people in need in the Bayside area.

In March 2016, the working group identified the need for the establishment of a Wynnum Community Hub that would build on other local initiatives. The Hub would provide an accessible, welcoming and non-threatening point of entry for referral and outreach opportunities to the Wynnum Manly area service system.

The Hub Manager will oversee various community groups and governmentagencies that will use the Wynnum Hub space to provide an integrated service response to people, reducing the requirement for them to navigate the complex service system.

Volunteering Queensland, SBTB and its stakeholders are committed to providing a safe and accessible hub in Wynnum where the following needs will be addressed in a culturally appropriate way:

  • Emergency Relief
  • Family Support
  • Education and/or Employment
  • Volunteering
  • Mental Health
  • Domestic and Family Violence, and
  • Other needs as identified

The Hub Managerwill be responsible for activities including but not limited to, project establishment, community engagement events, recruitment and training of volunteers, workshops, community meetings, marketing, advertising, securing additional project support and funding and reporting. The Project Management Committee will provide direction and support for this role and will meet with the Hub Manager on a monthly basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To establish, manage, and roll out a Hub for the Wynnum/Manly region within a 10 month period
  • To develop and maintain strong working relationships with existing networks within the human services sector in order to facilitate dignity, well-being, independence and quality of life for people who are homeless or at the risk of homelessness
  • Develop and encourage positive relationships with relevant organisations in the Bayside area and other tenants at the Wynnum Community Centre
  • To build on existing local collaborations, networks and current initiatives including some outreach in the community outside of business hours
  • To take responsibility for the day to day coordination and management of the Hub office space
  • To recruit, train and support volunteers to work in the Hub and to also recruit and train interested members of the community in preparation to volunteer locally
  • Provide support for stakeholders ensuring a safe and accessible environment at all times
  • Explore and secure additional project support and funding sources
  • Develop, implement and monitor a project and an accompanying communications plan
  • With assistance, develop and maintain project technology including a web page and social media where relevant
  • To provide Quarterly Performance Reports, Case Studies and to respond to other requests from the management committee and funding body

SALARY AND BENEFITS

SACS Level 7.1 ($63 073 for 4 days/week) + Super + Salary Sacrificebenefits

Package includes a mobile phone and mileage reimbursement.

The Hub Manager will at times be required to use his/her own vehicle for work purposes. Private vehicles that are to be used for work related travel must be comprehensively insured and proof of insurance must be provided. Private vehicles must be maintained in a roadworthy condition.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • The terms and conditions of employment are as per an individual’s contract of employment and Volunteering Queensland/SBTB strategic plan, policies and procedures including confidentiality and Occupational Health and Safety.
  • This position is subject to a two month probationary period and a six monthly performance review as well as evaluation processes in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 requirements. All employment entitlements are also in accordance with this Award.

  • Completed Tertiary Degree qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services or similar or minimum 10 years in Human Services, directly working with vulnerable clients
  • Proven project management track record from establishment to day to day management of a program, within a Human Services organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, support and lead volunteers as required
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues relating to homelessness and working with the following target groups;

-Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people

-Youth aged 16 -25 years old

-Women and children escaping domestic and family violence

-People with disability

-Unaccompanied children aged 15 years and under

-Families

-Older people (aged 55 and over)

-Culturally and linguistically diverse peoples

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain high level working relationships with community members, stakeholders and government departments including running community engagement events, meetings and workshops as required
  • Highly developed interpersonal, verbal, written and computer skills to complete formal reporting requirements

This position requires:

  • A current Queensland Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed at current ATO rate)
  • A current Blue Card or the ability to acquire, a criminal history check or the ability to obtain
  • The ability to work out of office hours as required
