BUSINESS ARISING:
Memberships are still due.
We didn’t go through with Port Augusta Wharfest due to cost.
Return letter was sent to Ulysses Club regarding their invitation to our club. Mandy sent them flyers for our October Event and they are very keen to attend. Mandy did inform them we would have a bunted off motorbike area at the event to reassure them that they can park away from cars etc.
GENERAL BUSINESS:
The Whyalla Show is only one week away and we are still looking for 2 cars and helpers for the weekend to sell raffle tickets and hand out flyers. Mandy is trying to change it up this year and have different cars to promote our October event. Anyone that can help over the weekend please contact Mandy.
We have received a text message from Heather Hayes regarding 300 club and that payment for last November is still pending. This was discussed and most agreed that the 300 club has run its course and Mandy is waiting to hear back from Heather if we can pull out of participating in this year’s event as it is also scheduled to run on the same weekend as our November Round of the 660 Series.
Update on the October Supercharge Shootout:
We are starting the marketing on 28th August
Flyers to start going out at the Whyalla Show
Mark has had printed 14 stickers that are 2m high and are going on trailers etc. so that they are mobile and can be moved around towns such as Whyalla, Port Augusta, and Port Lincoln.
780 ads will be aired over 5 different channels.
We also have radio advertising and static displays in various towns
So far we have 29 confirmed entries with 9 of those outlaws.
We have discussed doing tow money for those who pre-enter as this will encourage entrants to enter. This tow money is for Outlaw entrants only.
Big thank you ton Dave & Stephen Collis and Sean (Kenno) Kennedy for travelling from Adelaide to help achieve as much as they have.
We are ready for the Asphalt to go down this coming week.
Spectator carpark is looking great with all the rubbish gone & has been rolled.
Trailer park has been rolled and is looking great as well ready to be used for extra entrants.
Brian Smith has been working on organizing a reunion for past members and racers and so far has 80-100 people coming in October.
The clubrooms will be closed on the Friday night before the event as we are going to hold a sausage sizzle and drinks at the track.
If you know of anyone who is thinking about entering tell them to get their entries in now.
We are putting in 7 more showers for the weekend, also a bunk house and refrigeration unit.
We also have 7 extra helpers coming from Swan Hill.
We also have Nigel Benson attending with his Wheel stander Ute.
We will finish with a big fireworks display at the end of the night.
Sand trap will be getting done over the coming weeks with beach sand.
We still need track walkers, chute packers, car park attendants, and amenities workers.
We will be having 2 tractors with tyre draggers, clean-up crew
We will be having merchandise for the event
This is our only chance to put Steel City Drag Club on the map.
September 12th has been cancelled due to we will not be ready in time to hold the event with everything that still has to be done. We can look at holding a test ‘n’ tune a week or two out if we are ready for that.
We have also gained a round in the Summit Sportsman Series which will be held on 12th – 13th March 2016. ANDRA is underwriting financial losses up to $20k; ANDRA has agreed to our date and will be helping with marketing. Summit is onboard for signage etc. for the track. We do need scales for the event and our timing gear is up to scratch so we should be fine there.
Swan hill is interested in coming into the 660 series. There have been talks about combining Supercharged Shootout with the 660 Series. Mark went to Swan hill AGM and spoke at length to help them understand how events are run and what is involved. Mark had donated a track scraper and also took our tyre dragger over there so they could copy it. He also spoke about grass roots racing.
We are still sorting our dates for 660 Series as Mildura has to rethink their date due to another event that is on the same event.
We are still going slow selling raffle tickets so we need everyone onboard to take books and sell them.
Shaun Hurle advised that he will be becoming and ANDRA steward and will be able to help at events but would appreciate the support of the club.
Graham Phillis wanted to say that it is really appreciated the effort that Sean Kennedy has put in and a big thank you for sacrificing his personal time to be here for the past week.
We need to get the old TV from the clubrooms to the show grounds, that way we can use it each year and leave it there as well. The motion was moved by Wayne Patrick and seconded by Mandy Harding, everyone was in favour.
The father’s day display is from 9am – 1pm on 6th September. We are looking at 60+ cars to do the cruise to the track. Ron Matthews is organizing the event.
If we want further advertising and promoting opportunities we can attend Tanderra Craft Markets each month. We may not be able to attend due to other promo days organized.
We are keeping lane sponsors up to date with our progress and Hi-tech Oils are doing promo bags for the October event.
We spoke about buy back rounds for the Club Championship rounds with the money to go back to the club. This won’t be done for 660 series. It will give more value for money for the spectators and is a great way to get the meetings to run longer and get racers more runs. Not everyone agreed but is something we can certainly look into.
It was also suggested that we have a meeting where it is Pro-tree dial your own. A few thought this was a good idea and we can look at this in the future as well.
Clubrooms will be closed next Friday due to set up of Whyalla Show.
Wayne Patrick has spoken to the Ulysses club and they are interested in social events with us so we can support each other. This is a great idea.
Meeting Closed 8.20pm
Next Meeting will be held
