DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision of the Director, OEK, and general supervision of the
Chief, OEKR, the incumbent will:
o provide technical advice to member countries on agricultural research and
technology policy formulation, strategic planning
and institutional set up of agricultural research and innovation systems, principally in
Francophone and Anglophone African
countries;
o advise on the design of policies and strategies for developing and strengthening
national, regional and international capacities
for research and technology generation, assessment and adoption in reference to
food security, sustainable rural development
and national resources management;
o develop and strengthen effective and sustainable national agricultural research
and innovation systems for the generation,
adaptation and adoption of appropriate technologies for food security and national
resources management;
o contribute to the preparation of studies, position papers and conceptual
frameworks to assess, develop and strengthen
agricultural research and innovation capacities at national, subregional and regional
level;
o liaise with the International Research Centers of the Consultative Group on
International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), the
Secretariat of the Global Forum for Agricultural Research (GFAR), science and
technology organizations of the UN system,
regional and international research systems and organizations, as well as relevant
governmental and non-governmental
research and innovation organizations, to promote joint activities for agricultural
innovation;
o promote and support national and regional initiatives, projects and programmes in
research and technology adoption;
o provide technical backstopping to national and regional projects and programmes,
as required;
o perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should meet the following:
Advanced University Degree in Agricultural Sciences or a related field
Seven years of relevant experience in planning, managing, organizing and
evaluating agricultural research and innovation
systems and programmes in developing countries
Working knowledge of English and French
SELECTION CRITERIA
Candidates will be assessed against the following:
Extent of experience in research planning, organization and management in
developed and developing countries, particularly
in Africa
Extent of experience in advisory capacity at national and international levels in the
field of applied and adaptive agricultural
research, technology assessment and adoption
Familiarity with international research systems, particularly with the International
Research Centers of the CGIAR
Demonstrated initiative, high sense of responsibility and ability to plan, organize
and supervise the work of others
Quality of both oral and written communication skills in English and French
Extent of language skills
Please note that all candidates should possess computer/word processing skills and
should be capable of working with people of different national
and cultural backgrounds.
* The length of appointment for internal FAO candidates will be established in
accordance with applicable policies pertaining to the
extension of appointments
REMUNERATION
Level P-4 carries a net salary per year (inclusive of a variable element for post
adjustment) from USD 105,241 to USD 131,954
(without dependants) and from USD 113,015 to USD 142,517 (with dependants)

An der Fakultät für Forst- und Umweltwissenschaften der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität
Freiburg/Br. ist zum 1. April 2011 eine
W3-Professur für Forstliche Verfahrenstechnik
(Nachfolge Prof. Dr. Siegfried Lewark)
zu besetzen.
Die Bewerberin/der Bewerber sollen in Forschung und Lehre das Fach Forstliche
Verfahrenstechnik vertreten. Dies umfasst insbesondere die Analyse und
Gestaltung
von Systemen und Prozessen einer umfassenden Bewirtschaftung und Nutzung
von
Wald und Landschaft unter Berücksichtigung der Aspekte:
- Forsttechnologie und Holzerntesysteme.
- Bioenergie und nachwachsende Rohstoffe
- Erschließung und Geotechnik im ländlichen Raum
- Transportwesen und Logistik
- Technikfolgenabschätzung und Umweltverträglichkeitsprüfung unter Einbeziehung
der Aufgaben und Belange der in diesem Bereich arbeitenden Menschen.
Es wird erwartet, dass die Stelleninhaberin/der Stelleninhaber die Lehr- und
Koordinationsaufgaben
der Professur in den laufenden Studiengängen wahrnimmt und
dass fachspezifische Lehrmodule für die von der Fakultät angebotenen
Bachelorund
Masterstudiengänge einschließlich der internationalen Masterstudiengänge
ausgearbeitet
und angeboten werden. Ebenso erwartet wird die aktive Beteiligung an der
Graduiertenschule der Fakultät für Forst- und Umweltwissenschaften Umwelt und
Gesellschaft im globalen Wandel.
Weiterhin erwartet wird die Mitarbeit in fakultätsübergreifenden Zentren der
Universität
Freiburg, z.B. dem Zentrum für Erneuerbare Energien (ZEE). Besonderer Wert
wird auf die Fortführung und den Ausbau der internationalen
Forschungskooperationen
des Instituts und den Kontakt zu Unternehmen und Verbänden der Forst- und
Holzwirtschaft im nationalen und internationalen Kontext einschließlich der
erfolgreichen
Einwerbung von Drittmittelprojekten gelegt.

The Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe is
seeking applications
for a graduate student position
to conduct research on rural third sector organizations in countries of Central and
Eastern Europe within the project on "Third sector organizations in rural
development: a theoretical and empirical analysis" funded by the Volkswagen
Foundation. The position is for three years, to be occupied as soon as possible.
The Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe is a
research institution exploring the socio-economic challenges in the development
agrifood systems and rural areas in transitional countries. Beyond research, the
Institute is active as a training site for young scholars and as a forum of scientific
exchange. The Institute provides an attractive working environment with a young,
international, and multidisciplinary team. Successful applicants will have the
possibility to complete a doctorate.
The project is aimed at exploring and generalizing the rationales for various types of
third sector organizations (nonprofit organizations, cooperatives, associations,
partnerships) in agriculture and rural development in Germany, Czech Republic,
and Ukraine. Three major thematic areas include: 1) analyzing the effect of rurality
on the institutional choice in rural areas; 2) testing the alternative economic theories
of the third sector in rural areas; and 3) rationalizing rural-urban differences in the
structure and behavior of third sector organizations. The primary methods to be
used are econometrics and other empirical research methods.
Successful applicants may be requested to travel to regions under investigation.
You are expected to be competent in econometrics and be willing to be engaged in
empirical research. Competence in third sector studies and in rural development
issues is an asset as well. Individuals with the good knowledge of the Russian or
Ukrainian language are explicitly encouraged to apply. The knowledge of German
and/or Czech languages is an asset as well.
Position requirements:
oDegree equivalent to a Diploma or MSc preferably in agricultural
economics/economics/ third sector studies
oWillingness to be engaged in empirical/econometric research
oEffective writing and oral communication skills in English
The position is located in Halle (Saale), Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, at the Leibniz
Institute of Agricultural Development in Central and Eastern Europe, a leading
public research institution on transition economies. Halle is a city with a long history
and cultural heritage as well as a dynamic and vibrant research and student
environment. The city is very well connected to major railway lines (Berlin, Leipzig)
and to the airport Leipzig/Halle.
The salary is based on the TV-L with social benefits valid for public servants (TV-L
