Job Title: Head of Donor Development
Reports to: Head of Income Operations
Based at: Help for Heroes, Alhambra House, 27-31 Charing Cross Road, London WC2H 0AU (4 days per week) and Help for Heroes, Parker’s Close, Downton Business Centre, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP5 3RB (1 day per week)
Job Purpose / To lead the H4H Donor Development team to secure donations and build long term partnershipsfrom companies, high net worth individuals and charitable trustsAccountabilities /
- To be the Point of Contact for all partnerships which raise fundsfrom corporates, high net worth individuals and charitable trusts
- To lead the strategy for seeking corporate donations, corporate partnerships and corporate sponsorship
- To lead the philanthropy strategy
- To support the charitable trusts strategy
- To lead a small team to deliver a £10milliontarget by 2015-16
Main Responsibilities /
- In partnership with other Income Operations teams, to devise a 3 year strategy for Donor Development to achieve a balanced portfolio of income from corporates, HNWI and trusts
- To work in partnership with the Brand Partnerships team to achieve added income from commercial partners
- To work in partnership with the Events & Challenges team to ensure that all supporters participate in the variety of opportunities
- To seek sponsorship for events and challenges as directed by the Head of Events & Challenges
- To manage a pipeline of corporate, HNWI and trusts/foundations and ensure that all prospects receive the highest quality cultivation experience
- To ensure that all charity partners receive excellent donor care and management
- Lead a team of fundraising professionals and enable them to develop business development and account management expertise in the areas of corporate, HNWI and trusts/foundations
- Align all funding opportunities from Recovery Delivery and ensure that such opportunities are packaged attractively for donors
- Ensure all donor data is added to Microsoft Dynamics CRM
- To deliver agreed financial targets as specified on an annual basis by the Income Operations Director
- Maintenance of budgets and pipelines
- To ensure that all team members have appropriate training and development to fulfil team objectives
- To work closely with internal stakeholders including Trading and the Brand Partnerships team to deliver wider value from corporatepartnerships
Skills and Abilities /
- Proven record of developing corporate partnerships
- Understanding of brand value and exploiting the H4H brand to grow income and awareness
- Proven record of achieving 5-6 figure donations from corporate or HNWI
- Strong understanding of the Corporate Social Responsibility agenda
- Strong understanding of donor cultivation and track record of securing major gifts from HNWI
- Strong understanding of charitable trusts and securing funding
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong negotiation skills
- Pro-active and uses own initiative with a determination to ensure the charity’s grows income
- Ability to work well under pressure and willing to get stuck in, when necessary, to get the job done
- An effective team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Confident in decision making and creative problem solving
- Strong IT skills including, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Able to travel to partner locations for meetings
Experience /
- Previous experience ofworking in the commercial sector
- Previous experience of working in the charity sector
- Previous experience of working in a marketing environment
- Experience in working with budgets and business plans
- Experience of working in a busy, fast-paced environment, preferably within the third sector
