“We believe Hispanics have been completely forgotten by the El Paso Times—the local English language newspaper—published by Gannett”

— Gerardo Rodríguez Jiménez, Vicepresident and Editor

Paso del Norte Publishing Inc., a private enterprise composed primarily of American capital, is announcing the historic launch of the newspaper El Diario de El Paso next Monday, May 16, with an initial circulation of 20,000 daily copies bearing the slogan, “Periodismo sin Fronteras” (Journalism without Borders).

The newspaper will be sold in the El Paso, Texas market. It will be published in Spanish and will cost $0.25 cents per copy, Monday through Saturday, and $0.50 cents on Sundays.

“El Diario de El Paso is independent, unbiased, and pluralistic. We respect and admire this country’s Constitution and the way in which it protects freedom of expression. We would also like to thank the City of El Paso in advance for it’s warm welcome. We believe Hispanics have been completely forgotten by the El Paso Times — the local English language newspaper — published by Gannett”, said Gerardo Rodríguez Jiménez, Vice President and Editor.

The EL DIARIO newspaper chain is one of the most important and influential editorial houses in México. Although El Diario de El Paso is independent, it is the latest business initiative of the EL DIARIO chain of newspapers, a company that dominates the market in the state of Chihuahua, with an audited circulation of more than 100,000 copies sold daily, and more than 12,000 copies additionally distributed at the international ports of entry.

EL DIARIO also publishes Looking at El Paso, a weekly magazine with a steady circulation of 20,000 copies
