Advising for BCH Student Seminar (BCH 618/619)

From 1994-present I served as Faculty Advisor for many Biochemistry graduate students for their seminars in this course. I advised each student on the selection of the seminar topic and had the students present at least two practice seminars to me so that I could provide constructive criticism to improve their presentation.

Advising for Graduate Students during Laboratory Rotation (BCH 640)

From 1994 I have served as Faculty Advisor for many Biochemistry or IBS graduate students during their first-year rotation in my laboratory. I advised each student on what I think are the fundamental important attributes required of a successful scientist, and advised them of the transition they must make in going from a primarily classroom-based education (undergraduate) to the complex mixture of independent research and more self-directed learning style required in graduate school.
