Any protest or objection by a competitor or club against the placing of that or another competitor or a club’s team or against the conduct of another competitor must be made to the Race Organiser Dicky Wilkinson prior to the medal presentation on the day or in writing to within one week of the publication of the results on the Notts AAA website. Please note anonymous objections may not be considered.

The race organisers have once again kindly agreed for the Wolf’s Pit Fell Race to host the Nottinghamshire AAA County Fell Running Championships now in its eighth year.

The race is held over private land and so no training on the route before race day.

Competitors must be over 18 for the Nottinghamshire Championships (see race website for information for junior races) and must compete for their first claim club (unattached runners may compete but unattached runners from previous years must be first claim in 2018 to qualify in the Nottinghamshire Fell Championships).

£7 entry on the day at registration which opens at 0945 – arrive in good time for the walk to registration and start / finish area and bring full kit for the race with you to the registration for kit checking. (See later AND on the Wolf’s Pit race website about kit requirements).

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY ENTRANTS MUST FIRST REGISTER FOR THE RACE AND THEN REGISTER AT THE NOTTS DESK TO ENTER THE COUNTY FELL CHAMPIONSHIP RACE AND TO HAVE A MANDATORY KIT CHECK

Nottinghamshire qualification based upon birth in county or residence for the last 9 months. No previous participation in a championship race for another county in this competition year eg cross-country for Lincolnshire by residency then Nottinghamshire Fell by birth.

Runners should wear clothing suitable for the conditions. It is not essential, but it is hoped that club vests will be worn. There are strict requirements for kit / equipment to be carried throughout all of the race (see below).

County championship medals awarded in line with Nottinghamshire AAA rules to men and women in open, V35-44, V45-54, V55-64, V65-74, V75+ and team (3 of any age).

The race will act as a selection race for the UK Intercounties Fell Running Championships to be held at Lad’s Leap in Derbyshire on Saturday 19th May.

Nottinghamshire Fell Championships results will be posted on the Nottinghamshire AAA website www.nottsaaa.org as soon as possible after the race.

Teams will consist of the first 3 scoring runners of any age from each club and best on position NOT times - in the event of teams tied on points the last scoring runner nearest the winner determines final team position. There is only one category of open team. There are no vet team awards. Medal presentations will take place soon after the end of the race.

Wolf’s Pit fell race is an AS category fell race of 9 Km / 5.6 miles and 450m / 1476 feet ascent. The course has steep, grassy ascents and descents, rough grass with heather moorland and rocky tracks. Studded fell shoes are advisable.

The race is to be run under FRA rules and there is a mandatory full kit requirement THAT MUST be carried throughout the race. This will consist of full body cover of waterproof cagoule with hood and full length waterproof bottoms, hat and gloves, whistle, silva type compass and map suitable to navigate the course (available via www.wolfspitfellrace.org.uk) and the ability to use both map and compass. The kit to be carried throughout the race is a mandatory requirement - at the time of year of the race extreme weather conditions may develop rapidly with little warning. Alongside random kit checks by the race organiser, Nottinghamshire Championship runners WILL ALL be kit checked before the race start and at random on finishing. Failure to comply with kit requirements will result in disqualification from the race and championships.

Race Notes

The race is to be run under Fell Running Association Rules for Competition. Should you be unclear in any way as to what these are please visit www.fellrunner.org.uk

We would reiterate that previous fell running experience is required. This is NOT a trail / parkland race as it DOES cross rough, exposed open moorland. Here is amapof the course (note: NOT the 2015 route).

Whilst the course is partially marked, it is possible some navigational experience will be required. Do not rely upon following the person in front. Have a map & compass and know how to use it.

Land Access Notes

The local land-owners have been extremely co-operative, working with us to allow access across open farm land en-route to the mast (the first big climb), and allowing access across Abney and Offerton Moor for the later parts of the course. (This access is granted for the duration of the race only; a TWO hour period 10:30 -12:30hrs on the 18.03.18 – please do not abuse this privilege).

You will NEED to carry, wear or use the following kit:

1.  Full Body Cover must be carried by all competitors; waterproof cagoule with hood, full length waterproof bottoms,

3.  Gloves.

A spot check will be undertaken prior to the race starting.

Any competitor retiring MUST report both to the nearest marshall & to the race organiser.

Entry

·  Enter on the day

·  Race entry fee: £7.

·  Minimum age 16 years old, but 16 to 18 year old runners only accepted with signed parental consent form available at registration.

Car Parking

·  Please park at High Peak Garden Centre, Hope Road, Bamford, Hope Valley, S33 0AL as instructed. Then make your way on foot through the village of Shatton, up Townfield Lane, to the start field.

·  Please allow extra time to walk to the start/finish field, distance approximately 900 metres/0.55 miles from High Peak Garden Centre. As well as an incredibly well stock array of garden goodies the Garden Centre has a great café, Outdoor Gear and photographic shop and they even sell Mars Bars.

Toilets

Toilet facilities will be available, by kind permission, at the High Peak Garden Centre and Townfield Barn adjacent to the start/finish field.

Training on the course and important land access issues

The race is to be held in early Spring (lambing time), so no dogs on the course.
