PARKING ISSUES - We are continuing to review the 10:00AM Sunday Mass parking issues as we look to find a viable solution. There are many variables involved in resolving this problem. We continue to ask for your patience and charity.
Reflection on fourth Sunday of advent - We are an Advent people. We live not satisfied but plagued with thirst for the coming of the Lord. Our tragedy is that we often do not recognize the source of our restlessness but seek to satisfy it with all sorts of things that anesthetize our longings but do not fulfill them. One of the gifts of Advent is to stir in us the recognition that what we truly yearn for is not some passing palliative but the One who has come and will come again, day by day and at the end of time, to those who seek him. (From Magnificat Advent Companion)
The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light; to them that dwelt in the region of the shadow of death, light is risen. For a child is born to us, and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, God the Mighty, the Father of the world to come, the Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:1,5)
And we have seen his glory!
(John 1:14)
When peaceful stillness compassed everything and the night in its swift course was half spent, Your all powerful word from heaven’s royal throne bounded…And as he alighted…he still reached to heaven, while he stood upon the earth.
(Wisdom 18:14-16)
Corporal works of MERCY – In this blessed Year of Mercy, our actions need to authentically reflect God's mercy. The word “corporal” means “of or belonging to the body,” and so the corporal works of mercy refer to acts of mercy that relate to the physical, to bodily needs. Many of the corporal works of mercy were referenced directly by Christ in the Parable of the Sheep and Goats in Matthew 25:31-46: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. . . Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.” (Matthew 25:35-36, 40) The seventh corporal work of mercy, burying the dead, is referenced more than once in Tobit.
1. Feed the hungry
2. Give drink to the thirsty.
3. Shelter the homeless
4. Visit the sick
5. Visit the prisoners
6. Bury the dead.
7. Give alms to the poor.
