HHGC Fall Newsletter

Hi All. Thought it was time to send out a newsletter to keep you all up to date on all the goings on at the club. On a sad note I regret to inform you all of the death of one of our long standing members - Mr John Spick #33. John was an avid shooter and joined the club way back in the 1980s. He was also on the club executive for many years and helped to keep the place running at a time when the shooting sports were in decline. His health had declined in the last few years but he still made it out to the club now and again to keep an eye on things. He will be missed.

On a more positive note the shooting house improvements are still moving along. We hope to have the contractor in to move the burm and do some grading of the parking lot next week. We have the wood now to start building the floor and should be up and running by Spring.

I am also pleased to say we have a new roof on the clubhouse. Thanks to George from Elmvale Building Center for donating the shingles. And thanks to all our members who came out and helped with the job. It looks great.

Cowboy Action Shooting Update Fall 2016

Old & Young Cowgirls & Cowboys Wanted

Howdy HHGC Members, Here’s a look at some of the changes to Cowboy Action Shooting next season. We will still be shooting on the Action Range every Thursday 3:30 till Dusk, however the 1st & 3rd Thursday of each Month will be for Huronia Gunfighter Posse Members only (CAS Match Practices). Then the 2nd & 4th Thursdays are for Posse members, Sugerfoot (1st time) Cowboy shooters & Tenderfoot (Prospect) Cowboy Shooters.

We are always interested in having new people join the Posse so visitors are welcome to come see what Cowboy Action Shooting is all about and give it a try on the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month. All Shooters & Viewers are asked to keep in mind that this is a Fantasy Shooting Sport, so to stay in line with the dress code viewers are asked to wear jeans and Cowboy hat, or some other Wild West outfit.

Anyone wishing to join the Posse needs to have passed the Club Holster & Action Range Course. If & when you’re asked to be a Tenderfoot Shooter (Prospect) for Huronia Gunfighters, you will be expected to start to get your Cowboy outfit, Name Alias, Guns & gear together. This consists of 2 mid 1800’s six shooters (32 cal. or higher) a mid 1800’s lever action rifle & a side by side shotgun (coachgun) 12gauge (but 10 gauge ok), also leather western style holsters ( new shooters left & right side holsters, then as you get better & faster a cross draw may be added). Shooters trying out will be expected to meet or surpass safety & technical Cowboy Action training!

We are also developing a brand new Cowboy Action Shooting rule book for 2017. Copies of this new rule book will be available to anyone interested. The book will explain in much greater detail the subjects we have just touched on here.

Well, that’s a starter look at what we are about! So if you love to shoot & love the old West & new or old Western T.V. shows & Movies, this is a way to be part of the old west Action. We are all Shooters so always SAFETY FIRST, but with a Western feel , having Fun & a challenging shooting scenario , using guns of the Old West! Remember we are a Posse of Cowgirls & Cowboys who want to have a good time shooting in the style we love, so no modern guns when coming out, Thanks.

HHGC Members have many other times when they can come to the Action Range to shoot their preferred shooting style. IPSC & IDPA times are on our website www.huroniahandgunclub.com Remember SAFETY FIRST so anyone deemed unsafe, unruly, disruptive, Impaired, or abusive will be asked to leave the range.

Thanks, and have a Rooten Tooten Good Shooten Day.

IDPA 2016

Thanks to Kyle for running IDPA again this year. We had lots of fun and while it’s done for this year (way too cold and dark now) it will start again next Spring.

IPSC 2016

IPSC was really sucsessful this year. We had 3 matches and all were a great hit with shooters. Thanks go out to Allman and his volinteers for all the hard work they put into IPSC this year. Next year will be even better.

That’s all I have for now. Good Shooting.
