Troy Police Arrest Suspect Breaking into Bank
On December 5th at 2:16a.m. Troy police officers were called to the 5/3rd Bank at 3754 Rochester Rd. on an alarm. Officers observed pry marks on the bank entrance door and the ATM lock plate laying on the ground. Officers were also aware the ATM had been vandalized the previous evening. 5/3rd security then contacted Troy Police Dispatch and advised they could remotely observe a subject inside the bank wearing all black and carrying a backpack. Security then observed the subject attempting to break into the vault inside the bank. Officers quickly set up a perimeter around the bank and awaited the suspect’s exit. The suspect eventually did so and was quickly taken into custody without incident. The suspect – later identified as Michael John Zubeck, 22 from Troy, was wearing a black knit hood, black gloves and a nylon stocking covering his face. Zubeck had on his person a hammer and wedge tools along with a flashlight. Zubeck had allegedly also damaged the interior bank stock room door, however was unable to gain entrance to the vault or to obtain any cash. Zubeck made an admission he had attempted to gain entrance to the ATM the previous evening.
On December 5, 2014 Zubeck was arraigned at 52-4 District Court in Troy before Magistrate Clement J. Waldmann on following charges:
· Breaking into Safe; Felony punishable up to life
· Breaking and Entering with intent to commit Larceny; Felony punishable up to 10 years
· Breaking and Entering with intent to break into Safe; Felony punishable up to life
· Malicious Destruction of Building - $20,000 or more in damage; Felony punishable up to 10 years
Bond was set at $50,000 and next court date is scheduled for December 9, 2014 at 52-4 District Court before Judge William E. Bolle.
