Job Title:Youth Inclusion Worker

Area of Work:Leeds Citywide

Accountable to: Youth Inclusion Co-ordinator

Salary:£20’198 pro rata

Hours:12 per week (minimum, negotiable subject to funding)

Contract:Fixed Term till 31st March 14

Job Summary:

This role will involve direct outreach, engagement, one to one support and group session planning and delivery for Gypsy and Traveller young people. The Co-ordinator will work as part of a job share with the existing Youth Inclusion Co-ordinator to build links and bridges between existing services and provisions.

The post holder will lead and develop youth inclusion activity within Leeds GATE including supporting the Youth Advisory Group; leading staff and volunteers; and working to develop capacity and opportunity for young people to influence the services they access within Leeds GATE and across the city. The post holder will lead work with children, young people and their families raising aspiration and confidence to engage directly with a range of appropriate learning and leisure settings; to participate and speak out.

DUTIES:

  • To lead on outreach and engagement work for Gypsy and Traveller children and young people who are in houses, roadside, on the local authority site or other.
  • To implement delivery of group and one to one activity for children and young people supported by youth inclusion staff and volunteers and by external agencies.
  • To record contact, session outcomes and key areas for progress in Youth Inclusion for Gypsies and Travellers
  • To be a first point of contact for young people requiring support with education, employment and training
  • To research opportunities, refer to other agencies and support young people with interviews and application processes

General

  • To maintain agreed written records of all work carried out for monitoring and evaluation purposes, and to contribute to the development and review of the Project.
  • To produce written and verbal reports as required by the funders or the Executive Board/ Chief Executive of GATE.
  • To ensure own professional development and up to date knowledge of local, regional and national developments and initiatives that may impact on the education, training and employment of Gypsy and Traveller young people
  • To adhere to the personnel, financial and other policies and procedures of GATE
  • To participate in supervision, training and appraisal as agreed with the Service Delivery Manager.
  • To be responsible for your own and others health and safety at all times taking a common sense approach to new situations
  • To work as part of a team cooperating with and covering for other staff during absences from work as requested by the Service Delivery Manager.
  • The post holder may be asked to re-organise their work in order to help GATE respond to changes in type or extent of identified need. This would be done in ways consistent with the purposes of the post and in consultation with the post-holder.
  • To promote a positive image of people from the Gypsy / Traveller communities and adhere to the values of GATE in all activities

This position will require an enhanced DBS certificate. Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of your offences.
