Workington Junior Squash Competition

At the recently held competition, Windscale Junior Squash were represented by eleven of their more proficient players and came away with three titles, Boys Under 13 and 15’s, and Girls Under 15’s. Along with a main final runner-up.

In the Under 15 Girls, Hannah Crichton flew the flag for the Windscale girls with a comprehensive win over Sarah Frain (Whitehaven). Hannah won comfortably 3-0, with a little to spare, as she out manoeuvred her opponent, with good width and length’s, accompanied with a good touch game at the front of the court. In the Boys Under 13’s, Windscales up and coming youngsters, Michael Hobbs, and Adam Pearson dominated the rounds and duly met in the main final. In a tight opener Michael took the fight to Adam, his taller, stronger opponent, and gained an early game advantage. Somewhat crestfallen, Adam raised his game and managed to level the match with a more accurate second game. The third and fourth games were somewhat easier for Adam as his power and ball placement was too good for Michael, whose accurate shot making was unable to be executed, due to Adams pressure.

In the Boys Under 15’s, Owen Barrett completed the Windscale title assault, with a

3-0 win over Mitchel Parr (Whitehaven). Owen was in a hurry to complete the match, and take advantage of Mitchel’s tough 5 set semi final encounter. The first game was a cagey affair, as both players traded points before Owen nudged ahead, and saw it through to take the first game. The second and third games quickly followed, in the same vein, as Mitchel couldn’t handle Owens accuracy of shot, and court-craft, to take the title.

Other Windscale participants on the day, who all played some excellent squash with little reward were, Jack Brownbridge, Hugh Guise, Bradley Mills, Jack Taylor, Ben Brownbridge, Jackson Holliday and Dylan Elsworth.
