INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACCESSING THE ON-LINE ANIMAL RESEARCH TRAINING FOR STAFF AND IACUC MEMBERS

A. Mandatory training for all staff is as follows:

1.  Everyone needs to take the exam entitled, “Working with the VA IACUC”.

2.  Everyone needs to take the exam entitled, “Biosecurity Training”.

3.  Depending on what species you work with you will need to take the corresponding exam entitled: Working with (whatever species you work with) in Research Settings

4.  If you work with rats or mice, you will need to take the exam entitled, “Post-Procedure Care of Rodents”

B. Mandatory training for all IACUC members is as follows:

1.  Essentials for IACUC Members

These tests can be accessed at the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) website www.citiprogram.org.

NOTE: If you are a previous user on the researchtraining.org website, the accounts from that old site have been transferred over to the CITI website along with completion certificates and course completion records. Your user name and password from the old website should work on the new site.

Instructions to get you started on the new CITI website are as follows:

1.  Go to website “www.citiprogram.org.”

2.  Optional - Click “How do I use the new Lab Animal Course” in the left hand column for an overview of what the site will offer.

3.  Register for the course.

4.  Under Learner’s Menu, click on “Affiliate with another institution”. (At this point if you have already taken CITI training due to human training mandates and have already “affiliated with an institution”, skip to # 9.) If not, continue on to # 5.

5.  Select Veterans Affairs and pick Omaha.

6.  You will answer questions relating to your position so a customized curriculum can be established for you.

7.  A grade book will be established for your use in completing the required courses.

8.  You are now ready to begin taking the training by clicking on the “grade book”

9.  You are now on the “Learners Menu”. Go to “Add a course…”

10.  Click on “Update Groups”

11.  Go back through Questions #6-8 above.

Please note a new course has been added entitled “Biosecurity Curriculum” that all employees must complete.
