WOMEN’S AUXLIARY OF VALLEY BAPTIST ASSOICATION

This time we will have a Health Article by Nurse Patricia Davis of the Pilgrim Baptist Church.

We do not want a long news letter because we don’t want the churches to incur a huge cost for paper and ink; with that being said we will tryto keep it limited to front and back.

Nurse’s Article

Flu season is at hand. Here are a few strategies to build the immune system. The first line of defense is to choose a healthy lifestyle. Every part of your body including your immune system functions better when protected from environmental assaults and bolstered by healthy-living strategies such as these:

  • Don’t Smoke
  • Eat a diet high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and low in saturated fat.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Maintain a healthy weight.
  • Control your blood pressure.
  • If you drink alcohol, drink only in moderation.
  • Get adequate sleep.
  • Take steps to avoid infection, such as washing your hands frequently and cooking meats thoroughly.
  • Get regular medical screening tests for people in your age group and risk category.

Regular exercise is one of the pillars of healthy living. It improves cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure, helps control body weight, and protects against a variety of diseases. Does it help to maintain a healthy immune system? It may con- tribute even more directly by promoting good circulation, which allows the cells and substances of the immune system to move through the body freely and do their job effectively.
