Purpose / This unit standard is for people who need to produce establishment plans for small business ventures.
People credited with this unit standard are able to: explore and articulate business vision concepts; formulate and communicate an ethical framework for business operations; identify means of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation; and establish business goals and objectives and formulate strategic plans for specific small business ventures.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Explore and articulate business vision concepts.

Evidence requirements

1.1Vision statements for existing ventures are obtained and analysed.

1.2Vision concepts relating to the articulation and communication of business ideas in inspirational or motivational ways are contrasted with vision statements obtained.

1.3Vision concepts are articulated for proposed small business ventures.

1.4Cultural values and beliefs that affect vision are acknowledged.

Outcome 2

Formulate and communicate an ethical framework for business operations.

Evidence requirements

2.1Business, personal, ethnic, and social values and responsibilities are examined and potential conflicts and issues for business operations are identified.

2.2Policies are formulated and communicated for business practices and relationships with customers, staff, business associates, competitors, and the community.

Outcome 3

Identify means of fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.

Evidence requirements

3.1Methods of encouraging and rewarding innovation and creativity are identified and incorporated into business plans.

3.2Plans allow for experimentation and development of options for improving products/services/systems and for articulation and communication of new ideas.

3.3Recognition is given for entrepreneurial and innovative developments that enhance the small business venture.

Outcome 4

Establish business goals and objectives and formulate strategic plans for specific small business ventures.

Evidence requirements

4.1Objectives developed are clearly defined, precise, measurable, and achievable.

4.2Objectives are analysed and specific goals formulated to achieve objectives.

4.3Strategic plans are developed to achieve goals and objectives. The plans allow for flexibility to adapt and respond to changing circumstances and encompass short- and long-range goals.

4.4A business plan is researched and produced for a specific small business venture.

Rangebusiness plan – articulates the business opportunity; identifies the industry sector, details strategies; defines the market for the service or product; identifies resources necessary to implement the proposals; details ownership, management, staffing, organisational, and operational arrangements.

4.5The structure and format of the business plan is appropriate for the nature and complexity of the business opportunity.

4.6The information contained in the business plan is clear, relevant, and in sufficient detail to allow the recipient to understand and assess the business proposal.

4.7The business plan is supported by documentation relevant to the business proposal.
