Focus Skill: Author’s Purpose and Perspective
An author’s purpose may be to entertain, to inform, to persuade, or to teach a lesson. An author’s perspective, or viewpoint, is often connected to his or her purpose. Persuasive writing tries to persuade the reader to agree with the author’s perspective. Nonfiction text is written to INFORM readers. It can also be used to persuade readers to do or believe something.
Comprehension Strategy for this week: SUMMARIZING Good readers pause often as they read to summarize chunks of text to check their understanding. When you pause to summarize, be sure you can recall the main ideas and important details. First, identify who or what the passage is about, then recall the most important events that happened.
