The Junior School is a member of IAPS, with pupils aged 4-11. The Senior School is an HMC school with pupils aged 11-18.

Responsibilities of the After School Care Assistant

Duties

·  In conjunction with all staff of the School, support, promote and act within the School’s Safeguarding Policy.

·  Assist the After School Care (ASC) Manager in providing a happy, purposeful and safe environment for our children.

·  Monitor the behaviour of children at After School Care and make provision for communicating incidents to the Headmaster or Deputy Head.

·  Work directly with individuals or groups of children to provide a happy, safe and well organised environment for After School Care to take place.

·  Provide a point of contact for parents and guardians in relation to the care of their children.

·  Telephone parents/carers when necessary.

·  Supervise student helpers.

·  Supervise and administer the afternoon snack. Cut fruit and keep kitchen clean and in good order.

·  Set and clear up board games or creative activities.

·  Supervise and organise videos when necessary.

·  Supervise outdoor play / hall play when necessary.

·  Monitor the After School Care resources for indoor and outdoor play.

·  Provide a quiet area for reading and homework tasks.

·  Monitor and assist children with their homework.

·  Monitor, welcome and regulate visitors on site between 3.45 and 6.00 p.m.

·  Be aware of and be guided by the school’s Health and Safety Policy.

Administration

·  Be responsible to the ASC Manager for implementing systems and routines.

·  In consultation with the ASC Manager, maintain the registers of attendees, fees and medication/first aid.

Any additional duties, as directed by the After School Care Manager, which are within the reasonable capability and responsibility of the After School Care Assistant.

Line Management

The After School Care Assistant is managed on a day to day basis by the After School Care Manager and the Deputy Head with ultimate responsibility to the Headmaster and Bursar.

The Candidate

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals with a proven track record of successfully working with junior school age children. The successful applicant will hold an NVQ level 3 in childcare or an equivalent/higher qualification or have relevant experience in this field

The candidate will have the ability to work flexibly, efficiently and to deadlines. This is a busy and demanding role and applicants should be able to work to a high standard under pressure. The post-holder will be discreet, but friendly and approachable, actively encouraging and supporting staff and colleagues behind the scenes.

Applicants will hold or be prepared to undertake a First Aid qualification and should be proficient in using IT.

Applications

Candidates should complete all sections of the application form which should be submitted together with a full Curriculum Vitae by 5pm on Monday 4 January. These should be sent in hard copy to the Junior School Headmaster, Simon Severino, at the School address. Applications without the signed declaration on the final page will not be accepted.

Interviews

Interviews will be conducted at the School in the week beginning Monday 4 January. This will consist of an interview with relevant colleagues including the Junior School Headmaster. There will also be an opportunity to meet with other relevant staff. Please note that references may be taken up before the interviews. If you would prefer to be contacted first please state this.

Terms and Conditions

The job is available on a part time, term time only basis. Normal working hours are 3-6pm, Monday - Friday. The successful applicant will be expected to work on Open Day and Founder’s Day, two Saturdays per year, one in September and one in late June or early July.

There is a two-thirds fee remission (pro-rata for part time) for children of members of staff attending Alleyn’s Senior and Junior Schools, subject to meeting the admissions criteria, and which is a non-taxable benefit. There is also some fee remission available at Dulwich College and James Allen’s Girls’ School, though the terms and conditions are different and it is a taxable benefit.

The starting salary will be in the region of £6,832 per annum (pro-rata of £23,035 per annum) based on relevant experience, and will be paid over twelve monthly instalments.

On completion of the required recruitment checks, the post would be available to the successful candidate with immediate effect or at the completion of their due term of notice.
