Approved hire costs will be released.

Dates for 2016 are being looked at for all state events with not necessarily being the current ones being used.

Bookings will need to be placed well in advance if wanting to use venue.

Strategic plan

New strategic plan is in revision.

This is about setting goals and working to achieve the best outcomes for it members.

Coaching.

Council has had a large response from zones and some clubs, and has seen fit to add a voluntary coach, who receives no remuneration, to be added to the list with no cost incurred.

registering is still required.

Working with Children.

Working with children for all will still come into the bylaws.

The new rule will replace 8.2a.

This was seen as very important to the welfare of the riders as situations have occurred with in pony club.

There are situations were other movements have made this compulsory RDA, schools, Gymnastics.

In saying this some clubs have looked at making all members belong to the ambulance as criteria for membership. Clubs have clauses that you must attend working bee or special fundraiser as part of conditions of membership. This will be just another. But wouldn’t you want to know your child is safe from predators, it’s too late after it happens.

Nationals in SA

Held at Murray Bridge on 25 -30 sept 2015

Mid March nominations to represent the state in Olympic disciplines, tretrathlon and mounted games, are all on web site.

National mounted games have done squad selection at their January clinic and will now train and select the best 5 riders senior and junior.

Inter pacific Rally

Imogen Nicholson from Corio Moorabool was selected from the 6 nominations to represent Victoria.

Council has allowed the zone to create a memorial perpetual trophy in the name of Vicky Connelly for the work she has done for the Zone and pony club as a whole. Her passion was show jumping and the executive of the zone felt fitting that she could be recognized for her efforts.

State Champs at Rosedale Racecourse Reserve

2nd &3rd may 2015

Dressage Tests will be

Grade 1 HT3 and Grade 2 HT2

Horse trials heights

Horse Trials rules will stay. Any revision would occur in 2016

All letters concerned have been forwarded to the rules committee to discuss.

Remember the height has only risen 5 cm and spread 10 cm nothing else has changed. They were extremely aware of not increasing the spread capacity too much, as this would be where many accidents would occur.

Again this is maximum height and that most courses will take years to lift and build new fences.

New calendar for state events to be held at PCAV Equestrian Centre will be looked at and current dates might get changed around to suit venue and weather conditions.

Zone Items.

RECENT ACTIVITIES:

Speed to Safety Championships 6th December

Our zone held an additional qualifying day at Stony Creek RC on 8th November as a lead up to the WGZ STS championships on 6th December. We had 4 riders do a demonstration run at Stony Creek between races. It created a lot of interest from the general public, trainers and owners who had not previously been aware of the STS program. Lisa Coffey & Jenny O’Sullivan did a fantastic job of promoting and organising the day. Congratulations to Georgia Fillip who won the overall WGZ Champion.

Young Ambassador 13th December

The 20 finalists in the Young Ambassador program spent a day at Tooradin Estate . Each group had a riding session, sports psychology(riding with your mind) session, fitness & diet , sponsorship and being an ambassador. At the end of the day each rider gave an oral presentation to the judging panel. The judges chose 2 riders from each disclipline as the WGZ Young Ambassadors for 2015 . The ambassadors will give back to WGZ by organising activities for 2015 to promote their sport. A huge thankyou to Michelle Debenham and Jenny O’Sullivan for organising this program. PCAV made a special mention of the WGZ Young Ambassadors at the last CIP meeting and said how impressed they were with what WGZ was doing.

Inter Pacific Exchange to Canada

Congratulations to Matt Benson, Carly Heislers, Sophia Landy and Adeline Collins on making the short list for this position. They were interviewed at PCAV head office in Mulgrave in December and comment was again made about the quality of the senior riders we are producing here in our zone. Imogen Nicholson from Barwon Zone was the successful candidate with Carly Heisler‘s named as reserve. Congratulations Carly & well done to the other candidiates.

WGZ Showjumping & Dressage Series

The 2014 series finished in November & placegetters to be presented at next Zone meeting on 11th Feb.

FUTURE ACTIVITIES

January/Feb: We have one candidate for K certificate & are trying to organise a suitable day for assessment. The next K cert assessment is in NMZ on 11th April. There is a K information workshop at Ringwood PC on 16th Feb 730-930pm if anyone is interested. If we have any more K or C* candidates in WGZ we may be able to organise our own assessment day.

NCAS Assessment Days – 8th Feb and 15th May

Corner Inlet PC grounds on 8th Feb. Liz McComb came down to CIPC last Sunday & assessed 4 Prelim coaches. All were very well prepared and passed well.

Propose to have another day at …????……….. on Sat 15tth May. We need a venue somewhere at the centre or top end of WGZ. Clubs just need to provide the venue with an area for flat, SJ & lungeing- plus some riders if you can - PCAV will organise everything else. The PCAV received a grant to train 100 Level 1 coaches before 31st May- so anyone doing L1 before that date will be re-imbursed $100 each for their assessment. This is similar to the scheme they ran in 2008 when they rolled out the scheme for Prelim coaches & paid $150 each for coaches to obtain training.

We will run an NCAS workshop probably on a Friday night towards the end of March to work on the books if anyone is interested in doing their NCAS Prelim or Level 1.

NCAS Registration – All instructors at Pony Club rallies and activities MUST be registered and have WWC. Refer to handouts - we will discuss separately.

21/22nd Feb – State Dressage & S/J Champs

Being run at Wonthaggi PC grounds. WGZ have financed upgrading of facilities at Wonthaggi to accommodate this event. All clubs in WGZ sending volunteers to set up & work over the weekend.

14th /15th March – WGZ Horse Trials

Being held at Corner Inlet PC grounds. Course designer Mick Pineo inspected the existing course last August & WGZ have financed the upgrade of 2 jumps(we’ve refurbished the water & built a bank). Entries open on This event is also now has Open classes fpr Gr 3,4,5.

C certificate dates

28th March and 29th August. (Venue to be decided). Get the workbooks into Paul Seuren by 4th March.

Can I suggest that clubs give their candidates a refresher on things like bandaging, rugging etc so they know what to do on the day.

Dressage Judges workshop with Mary Longden – 10th April

Our Young dressage ambassadors have organised an evening workshop on Friday 10th April at an indoor arena. Details available soon.

Speed to Safety

Dates for qualifiers 2nd May (Woolamai) & 4th July(Stony Creek). To be confirmed.

State finals in Aug at Moonee Valley.

We will have an additional qualifier in November or Dec then the WGZ Championship on a Race Day at SCRC in December or January.

Our STS Young Ambassadors are keen to run a training day at Woolamai racecourse. Lisa Coffey is the mentor for this. The proposed date is 2nd May – (the same date as State HT). As we have been attracting mostly Gr3/4 riders for STS events it shouldn’t affect numbers.

Comfort & Safety Workshop – Unfortunately I found that we need to book almost a year ahead to get one of these days & they are traditionally run as part of the State Training workshops. (This year in BZ 31st Jan, NEZ 26th April, CZ – July, BZ –Nov). We can however run an ‘in-zone’ Gear Check workshop using an experienced person– so I will try to get at least 2 of these organised & tacked onto some rallies or camps.

Eventing Clinics for Gr5 riders

I am keen to organise a couple of eventing clinics for Grade 5 riders. This may be done with our Young Eventing ambassadors as coaches and mentors.

Eventing / Showjumping / Dressage/ Games clinics – please give me your ideas on what you want for our zone in 2015 & I’ll do my best to organise them. We will also be trying to work alongside our young Ambassadors for these clinics/workshops.

C Certificate

Next scheduled C Certificate examining date is Saturday 28th March and the entries close strictly on Wednesday 4th March. No late entries will be accepted. Please note workbooks are required at close of entry and an entry will not be accepted without the completed workbook.

It is strongly recommended that workbooks are posted with tracking. Also, it is a good idea to scan or photocopy the workbook, just in case Australia Post loses them.

Venue is yet to be determined. Generally a venue is chosen when we know where riders are travelling from and we try to choose a club central to those who will be attending.

To date, we have no entries and they close in exactly 3 weeks time. Entry forms are on the WGZ web page and one the WGZ Facebook page. Please start getting you club entries in, so we can finalize examiners and the venue.

K Certificate

We have one rider working toward their K Certificate. We are just finalising options for examining and looking at possibly going to another zone for the ridden exam.

State Dressage & Show jumping Championships each club needs to supply volunteers and add their names & club to the volunteer job list.

27th March information night on show jumping rules in conjunction with the series.

Zone horse trials being held at Corner Inlet- is looking for helpers from all clubs. This event now clashes with SMZ Qualifier Horse Trial Event.

L. Cruise presented letters from our clubs to the PCAV council meeting regarding heights. All letters were tabled and passed onto the rules committee. Motion from November meeting didn’t get sent into State council but will be sent in time for April Council Meeting.

After discussion on Instructors fees being introduced by PCAV in 2015

Lisa Hocking moves a 3 part motion

  1. That the West Gippsland Zone lodges its strong disagreement with the PCAV proposal to require instructors registered with the PCAV instructors list to pay an annual fee.

2ndL. Alderson All in favour

  1. The West Gippsland zone is concerned that EA instructors are already paying about $400 per year in insurance and administration. The West Gippsland zone proposes the PCAV obtains the list of current EA instructors from Equestrian Australia, when accreditation is renewed each year in October. 2nd J. Nest. All in favour
  2. That we put an implementation period of 6 months stay to workshop through issues with stakeholders to uniform and introduce a new registration process. Once a draft policy is developed that it put up for consultation to all clubs prior to being adopted.

2nd Claire Wilson All in favour
