Course description

This course provides simulated practice through English in business sectors or

workshop in specific fields, such as hotel management, tourism, marketing, secretarial, before actual training at business sites.

Course objectives

By the end of the course, according to three learning domains, students will be able to:

The Cognitive Domain

  1. plan, organize and manage business activities;
  2. know the process of arranging business or academic activities; and
  3. work in team.

The Affective Domain

  1. learn how to work in team effectively; and
  2. learn to be responsible and punctual

The Psychomotor Domain

  1. access the Internet in order to find information the content; and
  2. run the project with the teacher supervision.

Policies

  • Even though this project is a group work, each student may not get equal scores due to his or her attendance in the meetings and the event.
  • In case of absence on the event day without reasonable excuse, students’ scores will be judged according to their participation in the event preparation process. Students may get half of the score or less for the overall accomplishment criteria.
  • Students who get a grade under B are considered ‘fail’ in this course.

Guidance

  • Students should respect the project head and the heads of each task by doing what they have been assigned. The heads have the right to inform the teacher who do not collaborate in the group work. However, students may discuss what they disagree with the heads or other members.
  • Students should hold the meetings regularly, with and without the teacher’s supervision, to discuss the details of the event, the persons who are responsible for the tasks, and the preparation progress.The minutes, especially the whole class ones, should be written by the secretary and attached in the report.
  • If you have further questions, do not hesitate to consult your instructor during office hours.

Students are required to attend the event in the morning and the afternoon (5 points each).

Meeting attendance20%

Attendance in the meetings, both the whole class and small group meetings, of each student will be checked.

Performance & project participation30%

Individual performance and collaboration in the group work will be monitored through a questionnaire and an interview after the event.

Report20%

The report should contain the project proposal, at least 3 meeting minutes, all related documents, photos taken on the project presentation date, self-evaluation(both good & bad points) and suggestions for next events.
