The start of the Inter Club race at Preston

It was top success again for Rob Danson in the second round of the Inter Club Grand Prix hosted by Preston on Wednesday night, wit the Wesham women also securing top spot. With a 50-second advantage on the 4-mile two-lap course featuring the challenging climb up the side of the old tramway to the flagpole Rob opened up an immediate gap and pulled away to win in 20:31. James Mulvaney was the next Wesham finisher in 6th place, just twp minutes behind in 22:35. Steve Waterhouse was 8th and 1st M45 in 22:49, coming in 4th Over-40. David Taylor was 18th in 23:29, with Jason Barlow running well crossing the line 27th in 24:07, 3rd M45. The Wesham ladies won the women’s team with Emma Lund 4th in 27:04, 82nd overall; Carmel Sullivan 6th in 27:17, 85th; Nicola Unsworth 11th with 28:43, 119th overall; Helen Lawrenson 12th and 121st in 28:53; and Gemma Owen 13th and 123rd in 28:57. Carmel, Nicola, Helen, Sarah Sherratt (24th in 30:10) and Kerry Eccles (43rd in 31:51) were second women’s Over-40 team. The Men’s Over-40 team comprised Waterhouse, Barlow, Garry Barnett (46th in 24:54); Alex Rowe (51st in 25:02Steve Myerscough (56th in 25:17); and Simon Eaton (65th in 26:11), finishing 3rd team. The M50 team were 2nd with Barnett, Rowe, Peter Cruse (67th in 26:22) and John Collier (70th in 26:29). The Wesham M60s were 2nd with Collier, Alan Hudson (19th in 28:45) and Phil Leaver (177th in 31:03). It was another large turnout with 322 runners.

James Mulvaney finished 2nd in the Worden Park 10k on Sunday, running 35:02 not quite a minute behind race winner Gary Pennington on he two lap course out of the park and around by Runshaw College. David Taylor as in action again and he finished 6th in 37:48, a good time. Carmel Sullivan won the women’s race in 42:35 well over a minute ahead of second placed Carla Davies of Red Rose. Nigel Shepherd was 42nd in 42:56 with is final preparations before the Windermere marathon this weekend, also placing 2nd M55. Alan Hudson was 2nd M65 in 44:18 in 51st place, and Jason Blagdon was 55th with 44:35. Ryan Azzoparoi was 103rd in 48:14 in tandem with Stuart Topping who finished one second behind in 44:15 and 104th. Within sight of this pair was Mick Edge, 8th M55 and 107th overall in 48:37. Alan Taylor was 116th in 49:15; Kerry Eccles with a great run in 120th with a time of 49:31, 2nd W50 behind Carmel; Phil Leaver 122nd in 49:43 placing 3rd M60; Dave Young 160th in 53:00 with Paul Carter 161st in 53:21. Rob Danson Senior was 182nd in 55:18; John Howorth 187th in 56:04; D3bbie Myerscough 202ndand 5th W50 in 57:43; Maureen Danson 206th in 57:48

Simon Eaton finished 36th in the Howgills 26 trail event running out of Sedbergh on Sunday clocking 4:42:16 with Russell Mabbett 100th in 5:24:50. The route through the Howgills up over the Calf and down Cautley Spout features up to 1000m of climb and returned round Bowderdale and Ravonstonedale to Harter Fell.

David Taylor ran the Lytham Hall parkrun and he clocked 18:01 for a new personal best and an age graded performance of 71.69%. Phil Leaver ran 24:15 for anM60 67.29% and Dave young had 24:26 for an M65 70.60%. Sharon Cooper clocked 24:34 for W40 63.09%; Finlay McCalman 26:45 for M50 56.01%, and Ben Wrigley 27:49 for M35 47.39%. Steve Myerscough clocked up his 100th parkrun at Preston, running 19:38 for M40 70.54%. Nicola Unsworth recorded 22:47 for W45 69.71%; Graham Vickers 26:30 for M55 59.50, and Steven Gore pace-making with 33:45.
