February 2013 Meeting Notes
Opening Remarks
Update from the President
Update from Babe Ruth and Cal Riken meetings
- No bat rule changes.
- Babe Ruth is introducing the Xtreme League concept this year. Program is an interesting offering but doesn't appear to be a fit for us in Newtown for a variety of reasons including balancing in-house and Middle School baseball teams. It appears to be a better fit for older Babe Ruth Divisions 15+ or a town without a Middle School Baseball Team.
- New extra hitter in the Cal Ripken division for district, regional, state, and national tournaments. You MUST start and finish with 10 players
- Newtown will not be hosting any states this year.
- We don’t know if we will or will not be hosting districts this year.
- Fields update.
- We will not be using the Sandy Hook field at all this year.
- We are working with Parks and Recreation to get all three Watertown fields up and running as well as Hawley 1&2 to help with the with the loss of the SH field.
- We may make Glander 2 into a quick convert 46/60 to 50/70. This will help with overflow.
Update from the Vice President
- May 11th is picture day this year
- Dick's Sporting goods will be holding a “Newtown Baseball day” – Date TBD - 20% off baseball goods and other coupons for use.
- Bank account is now open for donations that were sent it to NBR for NBR from other leagues
Update from the Treasurer
- Uniforms – We are currently getting quotes for both in-town and travel uniforms from Rankin, Iovinos, and Tennors.
- We will be providing pants as part of the in-town uniforms this spring but we will not be providing pants in the fall. Spring uniforms will include - pants, socks, shirt, and hat.
- Monthly budget update provided
- Final budget provided
- 2013 Budget will be presented to MIGs in the March meeting. New safeguards/procedures will be presented as well.
Update from the Secretary
- Registration. We are currently at 370. We are about ½ way there. Estimating it to be about 654 this year. Will run through to Feb 28th. We will keep “late” registration open for one week (March 1st – 7th) and will have a late fee of $45. No registrations will be accepted after this date.
- Fundraising Committee update – First meeting held. A number of great ideas but we are struggling to figure out what is best to do this year.We need to be sensitive to local business this year. We will have a more formal plan in the next few weeks.
- Newtown Gear days. We would like to host 5 Newtown Gear days where we will sell gear on-site – picture day, Opening Day, Pitch Hit & Run event, Travel Uniform fittings, and a new “Spirit Wear” day that we will have. Kim is also working with our online vendor to get the old Newtown Baseball logo back up in our online store.
- Our largest fundraiser of the year is usually the Rock Cats game. This year the tickets have been donated but in the hopes of not losing our biggest fundraiser of the year we will be asking for donations from anyone who participates in the event. We are also looking into other fundraising opportunities for this event such as running the concession stands.
Misc Update
- We will be holding a Division Directors meeting on the 20th.
- We will be holding an event again this year for the coaches in March – Date and location TBD.
- Registration –we have notices that people are having payment problems when using their tablets or iPhones. We are looking into this.
