Role Description: Spray Painter

Job Title:Spray Painter

Job Department:Treatments

Responsible to:Treatments Supervision

Job Purpose:To apply spray paint and other finishes to component parts defined by the customer specifications. Manufacture and assembly of jigs to allow correct finishing of parts.

Main Tasks:

1. / To be familiar with customer requirements by reading the appropriate, drawing, documentation and specifications, including quality requirements.
2. / To prepare and mix paint and finishing media in accordance with manufacturers and customers specifications.
3. / To ensure that components and sub assemblies are adequately prepared for finishing e.g. jigs are available and masking completed as per drawing/ work instruction.
4. / To alert the area supervision of any handling / jigging problems which could adversely affect the quality of finish.
5. / To apply finishes as required ensuring minimum cost, maximum efficiency and optimum quality.
6. / To ensure that all operations are carried out safely and that protective clothing and equipment are used where appropriate.
7. / Maintenance of spray guns to ensure they are in good working order.
8. / Any other duties as may be required, within the capabilities of the post-holder.

Personnel Specification (I): Spray Painter

Training and Experience

Previous experience in spray painting preferably in the aerospace industry.

Complexity

Postholder is required to perform tasks where procedure is laid down in permanent or temporary instructions. The employee has limited choice. The tasks are routine but take some time to learn.

Maintenance of same

Physical Skills

Great deal of hand to eye co-ordination required.

Observation skills regarding aesthetic quality of product

Physical Demands

Postholder is required to wear respiratory equipment, overalls, safety footwear, and gloves for anything up to 8 hours per day.

Personnel Specification (II): Spray Painter

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
1.Qualifications / NVQ Level III in Engineering or equivalent relevant qualification. / Time-served painter who has a good basic standard of education.
HNC/D Engineering or equivalent
2. Experience / Relevant employment experience as Spray Painter. / Experience gained within the Aerospace industry.
Experience gained within a strict quality controlled environment.
Experience of working with small detail components would be an advantage.
3. Knowledge & Skills / Knowledge and experience of jig making using hand forming tools.
Ability to read engineering drawings with regard to paint schemes and masking details.
4. Personal Qualities / Group/team work

5. Circumstances / Available to work different shift patterns.
Available to work additional hours when required.
