Chemistry

2016-2017

Mrs. Whitmire and Mrs. Cresson (Resource Teacher 2,7)

Welcome to Chemistry!

We look forward to having a fun and successful year. Organization is a must in Chemistry. You will have a variety of handouts, notes, and lab materials to keep track of in this course. You will need the following supplies in class daily:

·  1 ½” or 2” binder with dividers and paper

·  Calculator

·  Pencil

You may use any scientific calculator for this class. It just needs to be able to handle scientific notation and exponents. You must have your calculator in class every day. We do not have a class set of calculators available to lend students. Although not required, highlighters and index cards will be useful as well.

Practice is import when learning Chemistry, so you will have homework most nights. We generally give you time in class to begin your homework. Using the time to work in class enables you to utilize your teachers and peers. If you do not finish your homework in class, you will need to complete the assignment at home. Students who are inconsistent about homework find it difficult to keep up with class. You will be given ample notice before tests and quizzes so that you can prepare and ask teachers for help outside of class if needed.

It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with the workload. In the event of an absence, students need to make sure that they get and make up any assignments that were missed. We will have most of the course materials with notes online. If a student misses a lab, test, or quiz, that student will need to make arrangements to meet with a teacher before school or during a study hall (if possible) to make it up. Because of the set-up involved, major assessments and labs must be made up no later than two weeks from the time it was missed. Please refer to the student handbook and the CLT statement concerning the make-up policy and reassessments.

At least four Chemistry teachers are usually at school each morning by 8:00 a.m. We are not generally available after school. You may also email either teacher at or

After you have read this handout together, please sign your names in the spaces provided. Students are also required to sign that they have read and understand the material. Students will receive course points for completing this task on time.
