Title:“Inside the Brain – Alzheimer’s Disease”
By:Professor William T. O’Connor, Medical School, University of Limerick
Why do some people age gracefully, showing only minor - and at worst exasperating - cognitive changes, while others show a more severe and disabling memory decline such as that seen in Alzheimer’s disease?
Professor Billy O’Connor from the University of Limerick Graduate Entry Medical School will describe how the brain works and explain how the latest findings on what triggers Alzheimer’s disease are leading to better and safer treatments including the surprisingly important roles that diet and both physical and mental exercise play in helping to prevent the disease and promote quality of life.

This unique project has witnessed the excavation of 250 Australian and British soldiers buried by the German army near Fromelles village in northern France.

Title:Astrobiology: The Hunt for Alien Life
By:Dr. Lewis Dartnell, Dept. Of Planetary Science, University College London
The Search for Life beyond Earth - 'Astrobiology' is a brand new field of science, encompassing research into the origins and limits of life on our own planet, and where life might exist beyond the Earth. But what actually is 'life' and how did it emerge on our own world? What are the most extreme conditions terrestrial life can tolerate? And what would an alien actually look like - how realistic are the life-forms envisaged by science fiction novels and films over the years?
Join Dr. Lewis Dartnell, a young research scientist, author of two publications and award winning writer, on a tour of the other planets and moons in our solar system which may harbour life, and even further afield to alien worlds orbiting distant stars, to explore one of the greatest questions ever asked: are we alone...?
