Attention: BC Mail Plus Housemail Customers
Canada Post Corporation – CUPW: Possible Labour Disruption
BC Mail Plus has been advised that the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) will be in the position to initiate some form of job action as of July 1, 2016 which could result in an interruption of Canada Post mail service.
In years past CUPW has taken nationwide job action for a day or two and after that used rotating strikes in different geographical areas of the country. At this time we do not have any information either way confirming this will be the case.
Business as usual:
The Housemail system will not be affected by a Canada Post labour disruption. Meaning mail for government offices or broader public sector offices on our Housemail system, originating within the Housemail system, will continue to be delivered as usual. See the attached list of towns on the BC Mail Plus Housemail system.
What will be affected?
All outgoing parcels (items weighing 500 grams and over) will be processed and delivered by Purolator; the only outgoing mail impacted by a Canada Post work stoppage will be regular lettermail (letters and flats under 500 grams) addressed to government locations not on the Housemail system and mail addressed to the general public and the broader public sector.
What can you do?
If you do require lettermail items to be delivered during a Canada Post work stoppage the only option is to send these items via a courier company like Purolator. If your office already has a BC Mail Plus Purolator MyShip courier account please use it. If you do not have a Purolator MyShip account, contact us and we can setup your account or you can mark the item on your mail ticket as a Rush & Trace item and it will be processed as a courier item at your regional BC Mail Plus facility.
