THEME: “WHAT BEING A HALIWA-SAPONI INDIAN MEANS TO ME”

PRIZE MONEY:

·  High School Writing-$400 for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third.

·  High School Poetry (Rhyming and non-Rhyming)-$200 for first, $100 for second and $50 for third place.

·  Middle School Writing-$200 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third.

·  Middle School Poetry (Rhyming and non-Rhyming)-$100 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third place.

Writing Categories and Rules (only check one)

  High School Rhyming and Non-Rhyming Poetry (Not to exceed 40 lines double spaced)

  Middle School Rhyming and Non-Rhyming Poetry (Not to exceed 32 lines double spaced)

  High School Writing (Not to exceed 3 pages double spaced).

  Middle School Writing (Not to exceed 2 pages double spaced).

Please be sure to read and satisfy ALL Participant Guidelines:

·  Must be a member of the Haliwa-Saponi tribe.

·  Only original unpublished writings will be accepted.

·  Entries are limited to 3 pieces per writer.

·  Name of writing, author’s name, age group and category must appear on top right hand corner. If this does not appear, works will be disqualified.

·  Completed registration forms must accompany each writing entry.

·  Typed, double spaced - front page only on 8 ½ x 11 paper, with multiple pages stapled. Page numbers on right hand bottom corner.

·  Entries must be turned in to the Haliwa-Saponi Tribal Office, PO Box 99 Hollister, NC 27844 by 5PM March 31, 2015 (or must be postmarked by March 31, 2015)

·  No late entries accepted. Period!
