Reports to: Business Development Manager / Pay Band/Starting Salary: G- £40,645 pro Rata

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The purpose of the Business Development Executive is to sell and promote, on behalf of NTS properties, a range of hospitality and travel trade products and service. As such, the purpose and value of the role applies to the following key areas and aims:

SCOPE OF THE ROLE

- Primary role - Business development / sales:

o The Hospitality & Travel Trade department works across the wider leisure, tourism and hospitality industries and in relation to promoting and selling the NTS offer within these markets.

This particular position relates to business development in the field of Hospitality, i.e. venue hire, events, functions (corporate and private e.g. weddings).

o The Business Development Executive Hospitality is responsible for sales and promotion of these services and products within the Corporate and MICE sector and operates within a national and international client audience and relationships. His/her role is to optimise the visibility, positioning and sales of NTS property offers.

The Business Development Executive works in support of and in collaboration with Catering & Hospitality Managers: the sales of these services, client relationships and coordinating specific services solutions with Regions.

- Product Offer & Product Development:

o Working closely with the Catering & Hospitality Managers within Regions, who are responsible for their respective hospitality and travel trade enterprise, the Business Development Executive advises on property solutions and standards and advises on standards and specifications where appropriate.

- Business Analysis & Market Knowledge:

o The Business Development Executive will generate detailed analysis of relevant markets and trends, customer insight and advising correspondingly on business development opportunities and quality standards for the NTS portfolio. They will regularly provide analysis and insight on behalf of and for Region’s enterprises.

The current duties of this job do not require a criminal records (Disclosure Scotland) check to be carried out./

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing and business development activities

The Business Development Executive is responsible for direct sales and marketing activity, including:

o  Direct sales with potential individual and trade organisations across venue hire, functions, weddings, and corporate clients.

o  Managing relationships with clients, partners and suppliers to the hospitality services (and coordinate with the Catering & Hospitality Managers).

o  Devise and deliver targeted national and local marketing campaigns encompassing editorial and advertorial across print and digital.

o  Accountable for all marketing collateral and content, national communications and key messages. To exploit all PR opportunities working with Communications and Digital Media Teams.

o  Identify and represent NTS at national and international corporate and business tourism sales missions, trade exhibitions and wedding fairs. To maintain and expand NTS national wedding open day programme.

o  Identify and manage key relationships across private, public and voluntary sectors e.g. UK and international event organisers, destination mgt. companies, UK and Scottish government agencies.

o  Responsible for key account management, partnership development and industry affiliations. To represent the Trust at key industry events.

Strategy & Planning

 The Business Development department will contribute to the delivery of the current & future annual Sales & Marketing Plan .

Hospitality & Travel Trade Product Offer in NTS

The Business Development function is primarily focused on sales and marketing but is responsible for effective advice and feedback to further develop the range of hospitality products and categories.

Continuously devising client-oriented hospitality solutions, working with regional Catering & Hospitality Managers, responding to and adapting to market opportunities (functions, weddings, venue hire and similar). Participating in and influencing Regional planning and business development opportunities to diversify and grow hospitality sales.

Stakeholders, Partners and Relationship Management

The Business Development Executive will exhibit excellent relationship management, internally and externally, with particular emphasis on maintain the National Trust for Scotland’s visibility, positioning and reputation across sectoral groups and stakeholders

Financial Management, Compliance and Scheme of Delegation

The Business Development Executive is not a budget holder although will be responsible for ensuring efficiencies are pursued with departmental expenditure.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

o Significant experience of sales and marketing of hospitality services and products within a leisure or tourism sector, preferably with a multi-site or nationwide dimension. (Experience should be with both consumers and business-to-business.)

o Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret business and trading data and trends.

o Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.

o Demonstrable experience of developing hospitality product/service offers and into implementation.

o Competent user of Microsoft Office products (including MS Excel).
