The 32nd Annual Waipukurau Waipawa District Sports was held at the CHB A & P Association Grounds on Sunday 20th November. This was the first year for awhile that it was not run after the A&P Show but still seemed to attract a good crowd with numbers much the same as last year. The Ian & Katherine Large sponsored Kindergarten Class was split into three groups again with a huge amount of effort going into the Fancy Dress class, the riders and their ponies were amazing. The Encouragement Jumps were also very popular again with entries continuing to come in throughout the day. Last years introduction of the Pleasure Horse Section was still very popular this year.The Pleasure horse section was sponsored by Ian and Katherine Large. The rest of the programme stayed much the same as in previous years with the feature being the 1.30m Horse Grand Prix Jump with prize money of $500.00. This year it was won by Committee member Claire Wilson and Alaric 2.We are fortunate enough to have the support of the Infinity Foundation and they had the naming rights of Ring One. The 1.15m Mini Grand Prix Pony was won by M Matheson riding the coloured pony Sushi, winning the Quality Presentations Sash and Blair Taylor Cup with local riders Zoe Strawbridge and Amelia Gunson picking up second and third. Farmlands Ltd had naming rights of Ring Two of the Showjumping and Longridge Horsecoaches the Encouragement Ring. Irvine Agriculture had naming rights for the Show Hunter Classes division which ran a horse section and 3 catergories for the ponies. Georgia Linton won the Edgecombe Family Tropy for the Champion of Champions Pony and the Tim Murphy Memorial Trophy for the Champion of Champions Horse was awarded to Alison Plank and her horse Sassa Frez.
We were very fortunate to have the support from the local community businesses through their sponsorship of all classes. The local sponsors are wonderful in their support for this Sports, we would not be able to run it without their financial support and the donation of many trophies for the some of the classes.
