SSPP Middle School – Service ProjectGuidelines
To: Students, Grades 6-8
From: Middle School Religion Teachers

Our school religion curriculum requires that students participate in service to their school, church, and community.
Service Project Guidelines:
Students are required to complete one (1) service project per marking period timeframe(totaling 3 projects/school year).
The service project timeframes for the for upcoming school year are as follows:
- MP 1: The first day of summer vacation (June 23, 2016) – November 18, 2016
- MP 2: November 21, 2016 – February 28, 2017
- MP 3: March 1, 2017 – June 5, 2017
Service hours do not “roll over” from one marking period to the next marking period.
Grading: Students will earn 50 pts each trimester in religion for completion of a service project.
The following activities are considered one(1) service project:
Corporal Works of Mercy
Participating in community events/walks/races (such as the Crop Walk, Ride for Roswell, Relay for Life, Run the Burg)
NJHS members – Completing service for the Perry Housing Project by baking goods and assisting with sales or participating in the stocking stuffing Service Project.
Doing chores at home/family/neighborhood and receiving money for the work. Then, student uses money earned to purchase items to collect during school year drives (such as the NJHS stocking stuffer project, soaps, paper products, canned goods).
Helping with Parent Guild or any other school activities (such as concession stands, Santa’s Secret Shop, and Box Tops Counting).
Helping a teacher or the school office not during normal school hours.
Participating in Youth Ministry activities (See Mr. Jeremy Dolph for opportunities such as raking leaves for community, Friends of Night People, Food Pantry assistance)
Parish Ministry assistance (such as decorating church, cleaning church, events set up, Parish Outreach Program).
Other activities PRE-APPROVED by the teacher.
Note that Altar Serving is no longer considered a service project.
Service Project Forms:
Students are to complete the Service Project form available from the SSPP religion teachers and/or on the teacher web pages under “Forms.”
