Coaching and Mentoring Auditory Verbal Therapy 27 October 2014
Program Announcement
Victorian Deaf Education Institute
Coaching and mentoring program:
Auditory-verbal Pedagogy
The Victorian Deaf Education Institute is seeking professionals to join an exciting opportunity for professional learning as part of a coaching and mentoring program: Auditory-verbal Pedagogy.
The high percentage of children with severe-profound hearing loss receiving helpful audition places an emphasis on the needs of professionals to understand and implement strategies for developing listening skills and learning through listening.
For children who are deaf or hard of hearing, using spoken language to communicate, improved listening skills may allow for improved speech discrimination and production, improved language skills and improved phonological awareness and reading ability.
The Victorian Deaf Education Institute is providing the opportunity in the context of a variety of settings for five Victorian professionals to develop auditory-verbal pedagogical practices over 3 years. The opportunity if aspired, to complete a written examination for accreditation with the AG Bell Academy for certification as a Listening and Spoken language Specialist (LSLS) may be available. Professionals would pay for their own examination costs.
