Instructions: Sign up for your reading and presentation preference by Thursday, 05 February. Presentations will begin on Thursday, 12 February. Sign your name in the box with your chosen title. While you will present your findings as a group, you need not collaborate to a great extent. In fact, you may present alternate conclusions rather than attempting to reach a group consensus. However, you will need to decide, as a group, how to organize the presentation. What I want you to do here is concentrate on exposing the differences between the multiple versions of each fairy tale included in the Norton text. As a preliminary activity to prepare for the presentation, make a chart of the variations of your fairy tale. What are the differences in each, both within the story and without—such as author and country of origin? What might account for the differences? What seems to be the overall message of each? How does that vary with each version of the tale? What might account for the change or changes in overall message? What are the didactic intentions of the versions? Do not simply summarize the tales. If you do so, you will receive a failing grade. Classmates should read the tales and be familiar with them by class time, so your job is to facilitate a deeper understanding of the text and not have your presentation take the place of reading. You must submit a copy of your chart and any notes before your group begins on the day of the presentation. This written work will account for half the grade and the presentation will account for half. As a daily/participation grade, you will receive individual grades for this project and not a group grade, so everyone must participate to receive a grade. If you are absent or not ready to participate when called upon, you will receive a zero for the project and no opportunity for a makeup will be provided.
