PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER - LATERAL

$4,952.55 –$ 6,320.85 monthly, plus benefits

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the direction of the Public Safety Dispatch Supervisor, this position staffs the police communications center and Public Safety Answering Point to receive and dispatch local emergency calls for service, refers and coordinates response to emergency calls with other appropriate emergency service agencies, and provides dispatching support to other city departments during non-business hours. In addition, this classification performs other technical duties including taking police reports over the phone, maintaining certain automated police information systems and assists officers in processing prisoners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year of dispatching experience, preferably in a public safety setting. Two years of experience is highly desirable.

Net typing speed of 40 words per minute.

Graduation from high school or the equivalent.

Must be willing to work various hours, rotating shifts, weekends and holidays.

Must be able to meet State standards for accessing criminal history information determined by a comprehensive background and psychological examination.

Those designated for special assignment must possess a valid CA driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
