Important information
Please limit packing to one small suitcase. Keep in mind you will need snacks, breakfast items and drinks for your room. Do not plan on a refrigerator or microwave in rooms. You may also bring a small carry-on bag for the bus. These bags must be able to fit in the overhead storage areas above the seats. The bus will be full so there will not be extra room.
PLEASE DO NOT PACK ALL OF YOUR MONEY IN YOUR SUITCASE. You will need to keep enough money in your carry-on, purse or wallet to eat on during the drives. We will not be able to unpack the bus to get your money out of your luggage. Phone use should not be abused during the trip. No videoing or pictures can be taken without the person in the pictures knowing. If you are asked not to have phones out or texting, please put your phone away. We realize the sessions are long, but please don’t be disrespectful to others.
Do not bring hats or caps. Also, if it works out, we will travel to the beach on Monday afternoon. You will be given specific parameters and rules regarding our visit. You will follow those or Officer Finck will escort you to the hotel and your parents will be called immediately. The safety of your child is our first priority. Rules given must be followed at all times. If you would like to pack a swim suit, it must be appropriate with NO string ties on top or bottom. The bottom must be as modest as possible. A cover-up or t-shirt and shorts must be worn when in hotel, on bus, public areas, etc. Boys must have an appropriate swim trunk as well and wearing a t-shirt in public areas. National Beta Club has a dress code that is enforced during National Convention. Adults may ask you to change if you are in violation. NO SHORT SHORTS, NO HOLES IN SHORTS OR JEANS, NO CAPS/HATS, AND NO SPAGHETTI STRAPS/TUBE TOPS, ETC. are allowed. Don’t pack any of these items. You will have 3 shirts to wear (you may get 2 of those prior to leaving or you may receive those at convention). Make sure to include your turquoise blue club shirt with our convention theme in your suitcase.
You may pack devices and/or gaming systems, but we are not responsible if those are lost or stolen.
If you are family members traveling to convention AND prepaid registration/admission, we will have your badges. Your child will text you with a location to pick those up prior to entering the convention center. Keep in mind EVERYONE (parents, chaperones and students) MUST wear badges at all times when participating in convention activities. We will hold them when you are on stage, but you must have those on to enter the convention hall.
Keep in mind that these times are approximate. Students will be given instruction each evening for the following day.
You may wear comfortable clothing on the way to Mobile, but no pajamas. The amounts to allow for food are an estimate. Keep in mind that food cost tends to be more expensive in larger cities and tourist locations, and may include tip amounts for the better restaurants.
