History of KinderCaminata at Fullerton College

Since 1995, principals & teachers in the Fullerton School District and the Anaheim City School District have had the opportunity to choose KinderCaminata at Fullerton College as one of the field trips for the kindergarten classes.

This year, Fullerton College will be hosting the 18th Annual KinderCaminata Event on the Campus Quad and adjacent classrooms. There will be 1800+ Kindergartners (742 from Fullerton School District, 600 from Anaheim City School District, and 542 from La Habra City School District) plus teachers and parents. [In 2004, we took KinderCaminata to the schools. In 2006 we did not host the event. In 2007 we hosted 1200 Kindergarteners from the Anaheim City School District along with 500 parents].

The Fullerton College KinderCaminata committee is working to ensure that KinderCaminata 2013 is the most successful event. Please join us in continuing to make KinderCaminata part of the Fullerton College legacy to our community.

What is KinderCaminata?

The KinderCaminata Experience is in honor of César Chávez an important person in United States history that has made a positive difference in the lives of all children and families living in California. His motto and that of the United Farm Workers, which he helped organize is “¡Si, se puede!” (Yes you can; it is possible). This important motto has been the theme of KinderCaminata since the beginning in 1994.

It is a county-wide program initiated in 1994 to provide an interactive experience for kindergartners, their teacher, and families. Kindergartners are inquisitive, eager learners and during their first year of formal education, it is a time when students learn about their community and the many jobs and occupations needed to support the community. KinderCaminata supports teachers in providing a venue on a college campus where the students can explore with their teachers “what they want to do when they grow up.”

It is never too early to instill in each student the importance of a good education and staying in school in order to have the opportunity to reach their dreams and goals. It is also important to let students know early in their education that college can be a realistic part of their future – college can be a pathway to reach their goals.
