DESCRIPTION:
This is an introductory treatment of some major theories about the structure, dynamics, and development of human personality. This is a course in which you are expected to familiarize yourself with both theories of personality and relating those theories to the development of human nature. We will approach the theories, terminology, and assessment of personality inquisitively and process the information obtained through reading, discussion, papers, and personal experience.

PSY 100 or its equivalent
ATTENDANCE:
Attendance is expected in this course. The course involves discussion, activities, and material outside the text. Students will maximize their learning through attending class and participating in the above information. It is the student’s responsibility to get notes and information for classes missed from other students in the course.
CELL PHONES:
An expectation of this course is that cell phones will be turned off during class. As a result of the advances in technology, regarding cell phones, if a student has a cell phone out on a test day, for any reason, they will fail that test.

GRADING:
An individual’s grade is determined by a combination of the following: Papers, test scores, homework, and participation in class. If an individual is not going to be present for a test date or when an assignment is due he/she needs to make arrangements PRIOR to the date with the instructor. The following grading scale will be used to determine an individual’s grade.

90% - 100% = A = 495 – 550 pointsTests - 400 pts. (Possible/drop lowest test)
80% - 90% = B = 440 – 494 pointsPaper - 100 pts. (Possible)
70% - 80% = C = 385 – 439 pointsArticle. - 50 pts. (Possible)
60% - 70% = D = 330 – 384 pointsTotal - 550 pts. (Possible)
59% or less = E = 329 points or less

Plagiarism Policy
Because plagiarism is a serious academic offense, it carries with it a severe penalty. Students caught plagiarizing in this course will receive, at a minimum, a zero on the assignment. There may be further sanctions, such as expulsion from the course with a failing grade, depending on the nature and exact circumstances of the crime.

PAPER ASSIGNMENT:
Students are expected to write a paper that will apply the theories presented during class to various case studies. A sheet with the specific criteria and case studies will be given and discussed in class. This paper is worth the equivalent of one test (100 points). The paper is due at the beginning of class on December 02nd.
ARTICLE ASSIGNMENT:
Each student will select an article from a professional journal and critic that article. A sheet with the specific criteria for the critic will be given and discussed in class. This assignment is worth fifty (50) points and is due at the beginning of class on November 11th.
