Conference: A chairperson is still needed for the planning committee. Members of the committee to date are Robin Boggs, Leslie Burger, and Camille Collins. The Thomas Clark History Center in Frankfort remains the preferred location. With the favored dates for the 2017 conference being the following Fridays, in order, October 6; September 22; and, September 29.

Suggestions for topics and speakers are requested.

Membership: Notice for payment of dues have been distributed. More information is needed on current members.

Public Awareness:

Optimal Aging Conference (OAC): For the 2016 OAC, the KGA was given 30 minutes for a workshop which was shared with Wells Fargo. This year the abstracts sent to the OAC planning committee were welcomed and approved as a “poster session.” Because those attending the conference are not comfortable presenting Guardianship in a poster session, the KGA will be represented as a vendor only this year. Becky Smith and Adanne Bagby will be attending the OAC at the Galt House in Louisville. A booth will cost $350.00, and one other person is needed to attend the booth during the OAC.

Richard will call the Fayette Clerk’s office regarding whether KGA can review guardianship filings.

Handbook and Video:

Plan: Send a copy of the Guardianship Handbook and Training Video to each county attorney in Kentucky, all 120 of them.

The publication cost for the manual is $2,500.00 for 500. A motion was made (Robert) and seconded (Linda) to use KGA funds supplemented by KBA Elder Law Section to publish the revised manual and mail a copy of each manual as well as the accompanying video to Kentucky’s county attorneys.

Website: KyGuardianship.org is functioning well. The website allows anyone to read the posted Minutes of the Board Meetings, complete scholarship applicationsand learn about the KGA.

Pooled Trust: Changes to the Master Trust as requested by SSA have been completed and shipped via FedEx to the Social Security Administration.

Robert is scheduled to give a presentation to guardianship supervisors in the Department for Aging and Independent Living.

Public Awareness: The first KGA newsletter was distributed, via email, and the feedback to date has been positive.

Legal Research: HB 63 (2017) remains in the House Judiciary Committee (as of 03/13/2017). The bill, if passed, would make a jury trial for disability determination hearings optional rather than mandatory.

NEW BUSINESS:

Public Awareness: Discussion regarding purchasing another banner and table runners promoting the KGA. Motion by Robert; seconded – Linda; all approved.

Adanne and Kristen will be in Prestonsburg and Murray to present for the Kentucky Autism Training Center Parent Summit and Professional Developmenton March 15 and 17 respectively. Discussed selling the training videos for donations.

Becky will attend ARC of Kentucky in Louisville, a to-be- determined number of videos will be sent to Becky for that purpose.

In response to the discussion regarding the distribution of the KGA Board Meeting agenda to membership, the Board determined that a copy of the minutes and treasurer’s report from the meeting one month prior will be included with the agenda.

Henceforth, the Minutes will be marked as “DRAFT” until approved by the Board.

Discussed items to give away at meetings and conferences across the Commonwealth. The decision was made to provide informational brochures and tri-fold flyers to increase public awareness of the KGA.

Next meeting: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at McClelland and Associates, PLLC, 5:15 PM EST.

Meeting Adjourned at 6:27 PM, EDT.
