To create a weekly schedule, it is most important that you record all your obligations during a typical week. Add the following to the schedule sheet:
1. Write down your class schedule, including labs.
2. Enter your work hours (if any).
3. If you commute, enter the time it takes to travel to and from campus.
4. Indicate time that you sleep.
5. Enter meal times.
6. List all of your weekly personal activities - clubs, athletics, meetings, exercise, activities that you attend on a regular basis - including weekends.
7. List your study times for each class. Include time for the following:
· Reviewing notes
· Reading the text
· Preparing for exams, writing papers, working on projects, etc.
8. Indicate activities you do for yourself – socializing, reading, journaling, relaxing, watching TV, etc.
9. Add any other things you have to do this week.
Next Steps:
Add up all of your activity hours for the week.
Use a high lighter to indicate where you have open blocks of time.
Evaluating your Schedule:
1. How many hours per week are scheduled for study time?
Note: If your study time fits the 2:1 ratio, which is 2 hours of studying for every hour you are in class, your weekly schedule is probably on track. If it's low, add more study time in your open blocks of time.
2. What do you spend the most and least amount of time doing?
3. To what activities would you like to devote more time?
4. Is your schedule too tightly packed? If so, can you eliminate something from your schedule?
Note: Keep time open to allow for flexibility in your schedule.
5. What changes would you like to make?
