School Meetings with
Module External Examiners

As part of Initial Examining Board meetings, Programme Directors should ensure that they have discussed the following matters with the Module External Examiner, and if the answers to any of the questions is ‘No’ then the completed form should be returned to the Academic Office after the Initial Examination Board. Some of the questions will not be relevant for all programmes e.g. there would be no previous Module External Examiner's report for a new programme. The response for such questions should be 'Not Applicable'.

1. / Have all the issues that were raised in last year’s Module External Examiner’s report been addressed satisfactorily?
2. / Has the Programme Team responded appropriately to any suggestions made by the Module External Examiner for modifying assignments and examination papers?
3. / Have you discussed the appropriateness of methods of assessment for measuring knowledge and understanding of the learning outcomes for each module?
4. / Have you discussed the appropriateness of the assessment criteria for measuring the degree to which the learning outcomes have been achieved?
5. / Has the Programme Team discussed the detailed content of the work that is to be externally examined next year with the Module External Examiner, and ensured inclusion of at least some of the work that was not externally examined this year?
6. / Is the assessment feedback provided to students appropriate?
7. / Has the Module External Examiner been given an opportunity to review the assessment for the next academic year? If this is not possible at this stage, have arrangements been made for when this will happen?
8. / Where the programme of study has been restructured or there have been significant changes, has the Module External Examiner been fully informed?
9. / If the programme of study is also offered by Distance Learning, has the Programme Team discussed with the Module External Examiner the arrangements that have been made to ensure the quality of the teaching for this group of students?
10. / Have you discussed any changes that may be necessary in relation to any aspect of the Professional Teaching Experiences component of the programme?
