Fiat Ducato gets more

Jayco holiday layouts

Just six months after launching into Australia’s motorised sector of the recreational vehicle (RV) market there are now three layouts for the Jayco Fiat Ducato campervan and a Eurovox GPS system has been installed at no additional cost leading up to Christmas.

First unveiled at Melbourne’s Caravan and Camping Show, the Jayco Fiat Ducato campervan has created tremendous interest, and Jayco has quickly responded to market demands by adding additional layout designs.

The first model provided a dinette-double bed conversion with shower and toilet cubicle. Now there is a fixed double bed layout with shower and toilet cubicle and a layout with two single beds that convert to a double and the shower and toilet cubicle has been removed to create more room, however for this model, Jayco has created a shower outlet that can be utilised outside at the rear of the van.

With a staggering 45 per cent of the total national RV market, including being the dominant manufacturer of “towable” RVs, Jayco’s move into motorised RVs was inevitable.

Their approach to motorised RVs carries the same stamp of aiming to be the best and that’s why they decided on the Fiat Ducato as Jayco’s first campervan model. After all, the Fiat Ducato is the number one van of choice for RV builders across Europe with tens of thousands of them owned privately and used as hire cameprvans.

Worldwide, Fiat has sold 1.2 million Ducato vans. The van was first introduced to Australia in 2002.

Although designed as a commercial van, it has the famous Italian flair for styling in the driver’s compartment. The driver’s seat is a comfortable armrest-equipped chair, adjusting to all required directions to ensure comfort behind the steering whee. That makes it an ideal tourer for RV owners who often travel for hours without stopping.

The vehicle offers both high performance and economy from its direct injection common rail turbo intercooled 2.8 litre 93.5 kW diesel engine. Transmission is a 5-speed manual gearbox that drives the front wheels.

Jayco was impressed with the spacious load compartment, internal van height of 1.85 metres ( 6ft 1 in) and a payload of 1500 kg.

The internal space, height and capability to easily carry the weight of furniture and fittings, including stove and fridge and shower and toilet compartment as well as the owner’;s holiday gear and food supplies all contributed to the Ducato being Jayco’s number one choice for its entry into the campervan market.

The large side sliding door gives easy access and the rear door provides additional options in designing campervan layouts.

Fixtures include a Smev two-burner gas stove and a two-way, 12-volt/240-volt Waeco 90 litre refrigerator. Both are built into storage cabinets, that includes workbench and sink. Additional storages is also created by using under-seat lockers and a wardrobe has also been installed.

The furnishings, curtains and overall décor of the campervan have Jayco’s hallmark stamp of luxury and styling.

Jayco’s attention to detail also goes as far as using powder coated aluminium to build the dinette seating.

The Jayco campervan sells at $75,400 plus on road costs.

Jayco has an arrangement with Fiat so that the campervan can be serviced through Fiat, Kea or Western Star Trucks service centres across Australia. Selected Jayco dealers handling the campervans are also developing service centres for the vehicles. For maintenance and servicing of the van’s furnishings and fittings all Jayco dealers nationwide offer service facilities.
