Course Description:

In this course, students will learn the features of Adobe CS5 Flash including how to draw objects, and how to work with symbols and interactivity. Next, they will focus on creating animations, creating special effects, preparing and publishing movies, and importing and modifying graphics. The next part of the course focuses on building complex animations, using ActionScript, adding sound and video, and using advanced ActionScript. Finally, they will learn how to work with behaviors and components.

Text/Materials:

Text: Jim Shuman, Adobe Flash CS5 Revealed, Delmar Cengage Learning, 2011.

Software: Adobe CS5 Flash and Windows 7.

Teaching Methods:

1.  Lectures/Demonstrations: Important material from the text and outside sources will be covered in class. You should plan to take careful notes as not all material can be found in the texts or readings. Discussion is encouraged as is student-procured, outside material relevant to topics being covered.

2.  Assignments: Skills Reviews, Project Builders, Design Project, Portfolio Project and other projects and readings will be periodically assigned to help support and supplement material found in the lessons. These assignments may require the application of various software applications.

3.  Quizzes: Occasional scheduled or unscheduled quizzes will be given to help ensure you stay up with assigned material.

4.  Exams: Chapter exams will be given. The exams will be closed book/note and will test assigned readings and material discussed in class.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this course, students will:

2.  Demonstrate how to draw and modify text and shapes
3.  Demonstrate how to create animations
4.  Demonstrate how to create buttons and symbols
5.  Demonstrate how to publish a Flash movie to the Web
6.  Demonstrate how to add sound to Flash movies
7.  Demonstrate advanced skills using Flash
8.  Demonstrate knowledge of multimedia authoring concepts and software
9.  Demonstrate digital movie design principles and concepts
10.  Create linear and interactive digital movies
11.  Generate 2D and 3D digital images
12.  Demonstrate knowledge of scripting concepts
13.  Create and distribute a multimedia product

GRADING: Grades will be based on the averages of lab exercises, text assignments, writing assignments, quizzes, and chapter tests.

DAILY ROUTINE: Students are to enter the building at the entrance closest to the classroom and should be ready to begin work when the second bell rings. Upon entering, students are to pick up materials for class—text, work folder, and disk and begin work on their assignment.

ATTENDANCE: You are expected to attend all class sessions. When you miss class, you miss learning opportunities that cannot be repeated on an individual basis during regular class time. If an absence does become unavoidable, it is your responsibility to make arrangements for makeup work according to your high school's policy.
