Kearsley Academyare seeking to appoint a dedicated, motivated and determined individual for the position of Network Manager.The role will involve a hands on approach to people management, project management and problem solving as well as the management and maintenance of the ICT Systems across the Academy. A calm, organised and assured approach is essential, as is the ability to build positive relationships is essential.

You will be responsible for liaising with senior managers and all members of the ICT team including external suppliers and other ICT professionals. As the Network Manager you will be responsible to ensure the day to day operations of the ICT systems, ensuring that adequate technical and user support is available to meet the changing needs of the Academy.

The ideal candidate will be someone who can ensure all computer equipment and network installations are monitored and maintained in good working order and in a clean environment. You will be responsible for ensuring all data is backed up and can be rapidly and reliably recovered in accordance with business continuity needs.

TITLE: Network Manager

EMPLOYER: Academy Trust

SALARY IN RANGE: Grade 8, Point 33-37

  1. To formulate and maintain through stakeholder consultation a three year IT strategic plan describing the purchase, use and operation of IT.
  2. To achieve the aims and objectives of the three year IT strategic plan within the required budget and timescales.
  3. To formulate through consultation, then manage and monitor service level agreements for network speed, IT maintenance and operation.
  4. To oversee the IT network and ensure the functionality, maintenance, safety, security and appropriate replacement and repair of all equipment within the network. This will include the first line maintenance of computer equipment including the checking and marking up of new equipment, fault finding in non-working equipment. Also to assist and liaise with maintenance engineers when they come to the Academy for the repair of equipment and systems. This will include both networked and non-networked photocopiers.
  5. To plan and advise on the purchase and deployment of IT hardware and software.
  6. To schedule the deployment of IT equipment, resources and staff.
  7. To ensure that the network operates within the most relevant and recent legal framework with specific reference to data protection legislation.
  8. To ensure the network (and all its associated devices) operates at an optimum speed and efficiency to facilitate outstanding learning and day to day business.
  9. Responsibility for the file maintenance in the Academy networks, i.e. making back-up copies of files, daily backing up of the networks, cataloguing public software, deleting out dated files, monitoring user disk space, monitoring and adding printing credits, loading software for courses as requested, helping in the expansion of the software base in response to the Academy users and generally helping in the efficient running of the networks. This will include implementation of policies and procedures in line with the AUP (Acceptable Use Policy).
  10. To carry out regular timely network upgrades, checks and monitoring activities for reporting and measurement against sector best practice.
  11. Ordering and maintaining supplies of all consumables and ensuring that IT support is adequately stocked; ensuring competitive prices and services are obtained.
  12. Responsible for ensuring adequate security of software and hardware in the Academy, including protection against viruses and unauthorised access.
  13. The maintenance of a catalogue of computer software and hardware ensuring that the labelling of same.
  14. The porterage, setting up and in some cases the operation and demonstration of computer equipment within the teaching areas.
  15. Responsibility in the maintenance of stock records and levels for equipment. This includes regular stock-taking checks.
  16. Regular audit of licensed software and hardware.
  17. Setting up software and login access for both evening and daytime classes.
  18. Preparing computing rooms and equipment for specialist courses including IT based exam rooms.
  19. Assistance in the preparation of temporary areas for the purpose of learning, marketing or any other associated Academy business.
  1. To participate in training and contribute to CPD activities.
  2. To attend and participate in calendared meetings where appropriate.
  3. To assist with the supervision of students out of directed time if appropriate and directed by the Principal
  4. To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature, may be determined by the postholder's Line Manager from time to time, in consultation with the postholder.
