A master’s degree from an accredited university in mental health, social or behavioral science, education or some other human services field is preferred, and be a Licensed Master’s Social Worker, a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor or some other applicable human services professional license acceptable to the Center’s licensing authority and at least two (2) years verifiable supervisory experience; or

Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and a minimum of five (5) years documented and verifiable counseling experience in an addiction treatment setting and at least two (2) verifiable supervisory experience.;

Salary will be based on a combination of education, license and work experience as well as experience in supervising others.

Position Description and Qualifications

General Description: Provides leadership and supervision to chemical dependency counseling staff and the residential manager at assigned site (s) at The Freeman Center to ensure that persons receiving services are safe and free from harm, facilities are operated in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures, and contractual requirements are met. The Residential Services Program Director will operate the assigned site(s) within established budgetary guidelines.

Philosophical approach needed in order to perform these duties effectively within The Freeman Center milieu include but are not limited to: empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive regard for clients as well as staff members, the ability to motivate individuals toward positive & common goals, the skills to hold individuals accountable to perform a set of job duties requires as well as holding clients accountable to achieve treatment goals; being able to do so in a positive and clear communicative way.

This job requires that the Residential Services Program Director frequently use initiative and independent judgment: using and overseeing the use of aggressive intervention; counsel clients on a scheduled basis; lead scheduled group counseling sessions; develop family and other supportive resources to assist in the recovery; maintain through and detailed documentation of assigned client case files; and possess the ability to be flexible, recognizing that client are not confined to a particular time frame. The Residential Services Program Director must perform duties exclusively as defined by the directions of The Freeman Center’s personnel policies, operations manual, and the licensure standards established by its licensing authority.

The duties of the Residential Services Program Director include, but are not limited to:

  1. Direct supervision of Residential Manager and Counselors assigned to your program.
  2. Will oversee the day to day operation of the treatment milieu.
  3. Must be able to engage client population from the time of admission and maintain engagement to successful completion of treatment; motivate staff to engage clients as well. Will ensure respectful interactions and will increase rates of successful completion and abstinence rates.
  4. Will review all admissions and discharges with the Executive Director or designee.
  5. Facilitate weekly interdisciplinary treatment team meetings program assigned.
  6. Carry a caseload only on an as needed basis.
  7. Provide clinical direction and training to staff under your supervision.
  8. Will be responsible for administrative and fiscal facets of programming.
  9. May be required to work evenings, weekends, and be on call as needed to efficiently operate the treatment programming.
  10. Supervise and perform appropriate intake procedures, and complete or update assessments of persons entering treatment.
  11. Ensure the delivery of services conforms to the individual treatment plans
  12. Provide and supervise services according to the individualized goals of the program or perspective unit assigned
  13. Evaluate progress of persons receiving treatment throughout the rehabilitation process; supervise the implementation of individualized treatment plans, disease concept and empirically supported methodology of addiction and recovery.
  14. Supervise the implementation of education and counseling, using a variety of modalities designed to foster recovery of the individual through an understanding of problems issues and empowering the individual to make the changes necessary to develop sobriety plus economic and independent self-sufficiency;
  15. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of services provided on personal caseload as well as those counselors you supervise as required by The Freeman Center.
  16. Communicate with referral and funding sources as required;
  17. When required to do so, aid in the collection of co-pays, deductible, or other financial obligations the person receiving services is required to meet as part of his/her treatment plan or contract for services;
  18. Serve as the LCDC “On Call” designee in the assigned rotation;
  19. Adhere to The Freeman Center’s Standards of Conduct and the Counselor’s professional Code of Ethics;
  20. Assist in the development of networking services with other agencies to assist with the unique problem areas not addressed at The Freeman Center; and
  21. Serve as an appropriate role model for other employees of The Freeman Center as well as persons in treatment in behavior, dress, language, deportment and ethical standards.

Must have the ability to motivate others to perform their job duties efficiently to improve the treatment provided.

Must possess knowledge of and theoretical guidelines of the disease of addiction and chemical dependency counseling ;

Abilities to provide individual and group counseling using motivational enhancement and other techniques using research-based treatment approaches to persons who have come to The Freeman Center for care;

Computer skills adequate to learn and use the Behavioral Health Integrated Provider System and other computer-based software employed by The Freeman Center for conducting its work;

Ability to manage time sufficient to carry out duties associated with the assigned caseload in an effective and efficient manner consistent with the policies and procedures of The Freeman Center, its licensing authority, and funder demands;

Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing;

Must have and maintain a level of physical health sufficient to attend work as scheduled and meet the demands of the position;

Must submit to a criminal history background check with results of said check to acceptable to The Freeman Center and its licensing authority according to published criteria;

Must submit to and pass a urinalysis drug screening, conforming to the Center’s “Drug Free Work Place” policy and procedure; and

Know and abide by the general provision of 42CFR Part 2, “Confidentiality of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records”, and the applicable parts of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
