AWESOME PAWSOME - November 10-11, 2012
How else can I report without using AWESOME as not only the name of our event but also as the BEST adjective to describe our very large event on November 10-11, 2012?!!?
The weather could not have been better! In Michigan we might have rain or snow or sun or cold in November but we had some sun and warmth! Perfect to greet all of our competitors; our 2nd largest event in the history of the Freestyle Fanatics and for the large crowd who came to watch our show!!
Thank you to our wonderful judges Gay Stahley and Nancy Withers! Both judges came from PA and did an AWESOME job judging, writing comments and keeping us on time so Nancy could catch her plane on Sunday!
Thank you to all of the Fanatics for making my job as chairman so easy. Everyone works so hard on all of the details large & small to make this a great event!
Thanks too for all the award donations including WCFO! Our trophy table was packed with awards each day and sparkled in our gold and black theme!
So on to some special notes about our show:
It was Veteran’s Day weekend & we had key routines to salute our Veterans!
Judge Gay Stahley arrived early to judge 6 Proficiency Tests on Saturday morning! Congrats to all as these tests are judged very strict & a way to get your freestyle to a high level of precision! Gigi Jones and Banditt tried the Bronze Medals: HTM & MF; Terry Swanson & Aidan and Linda Blanchard with Maksim passed their Bronze Bar MF tests; Terry Swanson & Aidan also passed their Bronze Bar HTM test, and Pam Murn with Nickie passed the Bronze Medal HTM! What a great showing!!
There were several brand new freestylers & the Fanatics love to break them in with friendship and hospitality & sharing/bonding that is freestyle! Welcome!!! (We want everyone to become addicted as we are!)
Even better than ever we had great costumes…How could I forget that zebra skin long coat that Sam wore to Sir Duke, Gloria’s award winning ‘gypsy’, Pairs ‘bursting out’ from their smocks, Lady Gaga’s blue hair, DaVinci, the painter complete with beard, a beer ‘mug’ dancing to Beer Barrel Polka and another rendition of Beer Barrel Polka with the dog rolling the barrel, 6 year old Zack as ‘Zorro’ in the innovation routine with his grandmother, Chris, and that Honky Tonk woman Pat with her wig, Regis in her full long dress right from the ‘King and I’ musical, and on & on!
Yes, I had to vacuum the OUTSIDE of the building after my crock pot shattered so dogs wouldn’t hurt themselves (you’d think I’d know better about thinking something negative! Thought that I should put it down so that I wouldn’t drop it opening the door with my hands so full BUT FAILED TO PUT IT DOWN…then CRASH!) Show chairmen have to do it all!!
I think this was a record (at least for us) for number of titles earned in 1 event! We had 31 titles earned over the 2 days! Linda Blanchard and Classic Trophies donated the nicest ‘title’ trophies to recognize them!!
It was great to have 3 juniors competing: Grace & Checkers, Ashley with Daisy and Kelsey & Bailey! We LOVE the juniors!
Speaking of juniors, 4 time winner of the Junior National Championship, Michele Cope returned to the competition ring after an absence of 10 years now as an adult with new dog, Zeeva. Certainly was great to see her come back as artistic as ever and enjoy freestyle as she did with her little dog, Star so long ago!
Remembering those ‘old’ days of freestyle past, Border Terrier Sonic competed with Bev Blanchard to earn his 4th WCFO Championship title (HTM, MF, SS and HD). This is Sonic’s 12th year of dancing in freestyle with Bev & he was SO proud of himself both Saturday & Sunday!!
Friends who began freestyle with some of us over 12 years ago, Paula and Ellen from Ohio joined in our fun event. Paula’s Andy and Zoe danced with her while Ellen supported them!!
Also celebrating was Regis Wagner’s Border Collie, Bambi who had her 12th birthday on Sunday!! They competed in both PDP MF & PDP HTM!
Out of the ring, a surprise mini-celebration was held for Nan Marks’ birthday complete with a cake with her picture!!
Looking like a celebration dance were the Divas and Dogs team shimmying their way to a title!
So nice to have Cindy S in the ring with new pup, Spencer getting ‘down’ and Linda Setters with ALL of her dogs, Lu, Hadees, Birdie and Lenny who all know so many fun tricks!! Elaine & Hunter joined Gigi and Banditt doing pairs all the way from Wisconsin! Our upper peninsula of Michigan represented by long time friend, Arlene with Sophie…who says Coonhounds can’t dance? Speaking of long time friends, Carrie joined us showing off her love of freestyle with her dogs, Dexter and Raven! (This woman has some great love of music!)
Trish & Molly danced a smooth, mellow routine while Kathy created a new fun environment for Riley at his first competition and enjoyed dancing with Peaches in Sassy Seniors. Golden, Nickie with owner Pam who didn’t think she was prepared managed a Q anyway!
With a Pharoah Hound and Boston Terrier, Annie H came on Sunday to show both breeds have some moves they like to show off in freestyle earning both dogs 2nd place in their classes!
Dreamy Suzette traveled from Florida to quietly dance with Hattie to Mr Sandman showing how interesting HTM can be! HTM was well represented by a number of exhibitors such as Kayla & Rebel who showed off her pivoting bow, sweet Rave with Bev, Pat dancing with both Max and Roxie, along with many more! (you know I LOVE HTM!)
I could go on & on more than I have about the AWESOME performances, the AWESOME camaraderie, and the AWESOME event but on to the actual report.
