CRITERIA
External Condition: All romaine lettuce should meet the minimum U.S. #1 standards. Beyond that, the following points should be particularly noted. All Romaine lettuceshouldbe free of, dirt and/or any extraneous matter. There should beno bruising, rusting, twisting, epidermal peel, or bug damage. There should be no seed stem (bolting)

Varieties:As determined by Supervalu buying office.
Taste:The taste should be characteristic of the variety with no foreign taste or odors that would indicate a contamination.
Maturity/Condition: The romaine lettuce should be crisp and tender.
Color:Pale to dark green tops with white ribs (True Hearts).
Weight:8 oz. head size preferred. 5 ozper head minimum.
10 oz. per head maximum with no more than a 3 ounce variance per head. (Hearts within bag should be uniformly sized.)
PACKAGING:
Outer Case:Standard industry case which affords adequate protection to product, with the country of origin clearly marked.
Selling Unit:All Romaine Heart packages must have a sticker with the PEIB assigned UPC attached, as well as the country of origin. If a net weight is stated, each pack/case must meet the minimum stated net weight. Daily weight checks at the point of packing are strictly required. NO TOLERANCE FOR SHORT WEIGHTS.

PALLETIZATION:
All products must be received on a 40”x 48” GMA #1 hardwood pallets – CHEP preferred.
PRODUCT PRECOOLING:
AllRomaineHeartsmust be pre-cooled prior to loading.
STORAGE/TRANSPORT TEMPERATURES:
Temp on dispatch and receipt:33-38 degrees range, optimum of 34 degreesFahrenheit.
Sensitech Temp Tale recorders must be provided on all loads.Recorder must be placed between 8 to 10 feet from the rear of the trailer on the left wall, no more than 2 feet from the top of the trailer.
All deliveries may only contain food or food related commodities. At no time should chemicals or any other toxics be shipped with the delivery.
PRODUCT LIFE:
Product should give at least 12 days life upon receipt at the Supervalu, Inc.distribution facility.
IMPORTANT:
DETAILS ON THE SPECIFICATION MUST NOT BE CHANGED WITHOUT PRIOR WRITTEN AGREEMENT WITH THE SUPERVALU INCBUYING OFFICE.
AT NO TIME SHOULD ANY OF THE SUPERVALU, INC PRODUCT OR PACKAGING SPECIFICATIONS BE DISCUSSED WITH ANY OF INDUSTRY PEOPLE UNLESS SO AUTHORIZED BY THE ALBERTSONSPRODUCE BUYING OFFICE. FAILURE TO RESPECT THE CONFIDENTIAL NATURE OF THE PRODUCT OR PACKAGING WILL JEAPORDIZE YOUR POSITION AS ANALBERTSONSSUPPLIER. ALL ORDERS PLACED BY THE BUYING OFFICE SHALL BE DELIVERED AS DETAILED.
