III. RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS AND OTHER SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES:

Overview of Research Program

My research is guided by a drive to understand how individuals’ social identities and culture impact psychosocial functioning, including development, learning, and mental health. The majority of my research has focused on examining racial and ethnic minority adolescents’ academic achievement and mental health outcomes. Within this area, my research has addressed cultural factors such as racial socialization, racial and ethnic identity, race-related stress, and impostor feelings, as well as student attitudes toward teachers. I am particularly interested in gender differences in socialization and outcomes.

I have more recently expanded my scholarship to include understudied cultural identities such as socioeconomic status, within-nation region, and international student status.
